Hi all;

I completed the first mining quest mission last nightand was given a Class I mining laser and a cargo hold, followed by a quest to mine 250 units of silicaceous asteroid in the Corellia system. I loaded the mining laser was weapon 2 on my Y-wing and loaded the cargo hold. After that, nothing worked.

I've gone to multiple "silicaceous asteroids"; by direct flight, by hyperdrive jump, by auto pilot, etc... I've loaded the mining laser in its own group and grouped with my regular gun. The only time I see any type of a shot is when my regular weapon is included in the group. Then I see the ray beams and small rocks breaking off to disappear immediately.

Last night, with the two weapons 'G'rouped together, I ran my capacitor dry many, many times. I did not see any change in the hitpoints on the asteroid when I /examined it. Nothing in my cargo hold; nothing noted in my data pad; nothing....

Today I went out and tried again, with the same results.

So, what am I doing wrong. Is it "G"rouping that causes the problem? Does the Class I laser have to be my primary weapon? What??????

i hope you realize the y-wing's number 2 gun can only be used by a gunner who isnt the pilot so you either need a long probe or put it as your primary gun when you go mining.

Sigh.... I did not know that. There are so many things about this game that do not seem to be documented anywhere. Thank you very much.

Does this really mean that I have to land, swap weapons, an then pray I don't get into a fight? How do you deal with the asteroid bandits everyone talks about? Where can I read up about the differences between a Y-Wing and a Long-Probe?

in the Pilot FAQ v3 there are a list of all the ships, that list include how many weapons you have, and how many of those that are Turret weapons

the mining laser will cause damage to asteroid bandits, althou its not as effective as a blaster would be, but it will enable you to kill lower TIer Asteroid Bandits.

all accounts cancled. im leaving this game

/whishes everyone farewell and good fortune.

A mining laser is every bit as effective as a blaster of the same Mark. So get yourself a MkIII mining laser (if you're certified for level 5 components) and you'll find it's as effective as a Heavy Blaster against ships.

My Belbullab mining ship has 2 MkIII Mining Lasers and a MkIII Proton Launcher and I don't have a problem taking out bandits.

If your going to mine, you might as well get used to fighting with a dweeb weapon. To mine effectively (not wasting time and effort) you will need to use the tractor beem you will recieve later itn the quest. So you will need a ship with 2 gun mounts the pilot can control. 1 mount has the laser the other has the tractor beem.

I mine just fine without a tractor beam. All it takes is a ship that's nimble enough to catch the chunks before they get too far away. A Belbullab with a good PYR engine can turn on a dime and fill a large cargo hold in ten minutes. Remember... twice as many mining laers will get the job done in half the time - and be twice as effective when you need to fight. A tractor beam is just dead weight for anything else, but a laser works as a weapon too. Plus, there's a sweet irony in killing an asteroid bandit with one.
