Hello. I am an old time player , pre jtl, that has come back and I have a few questions. I just trained 4433 from the trainer at the Imp outpost and he wants me to do a patrol, I do it than he wants me to do a duty mission , which it seems that i can leave at any time and they are just for experience. My questions?

1) Should I just do the duty velocity missions for tier 4's and occasional 5's straight thru to 4444, or do I need to actually do those missions that he is decribing as a choice for me. I have heard other just grind out 4444 , in Endor, and then that trainer sends them to an admiral, I assume it is the same here??

2) I use a JSF from the quest reward and use guns have about .670 to shields and armor. These are re'd for level 6 and I have level 8 abilty now. I noticed the mass on most level 8's is like 25k and my guns are only 8-10k mass. Would it be viable to drop armor and something else, that would give me 10k+ to work with and upgrade weapons to level 8? I use Weapon Overload 3 on the weapons right now with a 102 65 pyr engine so I dont really get hit much , and if I do, I use the cap to shunt 4 program??

3) Some posts are talking about reward shields, weapons engines? Is that the clone relics "starmap" quest or is there more to it. I read about Nym reward engines, what's that all about? Do you get reward components for doing those long ass tier 4 escort missions from the inquisitor? Please advise

Forgive me for all the questions but I have spent a fair amount of time trolling the boards for answers and my head hurts and I don't get alot of time to play with "wife aggro". Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Duty missions are just for xp - but they are good xp, although I didn't like the Black Epsilon one. Honestly, if you have access, it's worth it to drive to the Emperor's Retreat and take a T4 duty from the inquisitor in Vader's room.

Sounds like a good setup, actually. Decent anyhow, I like level 7 guns. Definately use Cap to Shield Shunt.

Each mission within your Tier gives you a mission. Somewhere in T4 you get a nice gun and a great shield, in T3 you get a great engine. Search in the quests forum for info on the Nym's Starmap quest.

You're using a jsf to complete an Imperial piloting squadron? Blasphemy

I also came back to SWG (pre JTL) and ran into the same type questions, let me try to sum it up as best as i can..

Duty missions are an xp grind mechanism, you will get them from your trainer until you have enough xp to train your next box, after that, you should get your next "real" mission (these allow you to train your next box in most cases) you can do space station missions for cash and a nice break from the grind as well. It sounds like youll have 2 more real missions to get to 4/4/4/4.

I personally shoe-horn the biggest weapon i can get into my ships, i get alot of multiple bogeys in my tier 4 missions (vortex) and i tend to try disable as many as i can, as fast as i can (on training missions). IMHO capacitor/weapon/engine/shields are the order of importance.

reward ship parts are great because they tend to have very nice stats, and can be RE'd with other parts, the nym starmap quest is very nice, the nym engine has some random stats, sounds like your engine is better that most nyms, youll also get several decent parts for missions, although generally the trainer never tells you you get the part, so check your inventory.

its a long read, but the pilot FAQ v3.0 is very complete, with a few clickable links hidden inside for nym starmap walkthrough and a list of parts reward for each faction.

I use my Adv. X-wing for missions (i really shouldnt.. it cant be repaired and the tier 4 missions are tough, im losing alot of its chassis hp with every failed attempt)

Good luck from one old timer to another (can anyone say sp edition goggles ) Good hunting up there!!
