Thread: How do I collect an Asteroid? Not mining, an actual chunk!!

Ok, before i get flamed.....I am not asking how to mine in space, I already know how to do that. What I am asking is how do you collect an asteroid in space and bring it to the ground?

I did not see it personally but a Mall in one of our player cities had a large asteroid chunk floating in their mall for awhile....by the time I got there to check it out they had taken it down....but my buddy said it was very cool and something different. I would sure like to get a couple and see how they look floating in my shop or maybe our city hall!!

Thanks for any help or direction. At this point as I see smaller asteroid chunks I blow them up into smaller parts and then those go into my cargo hold and get unloaded as a space resource. No asteroid chunk.

I am assuming this has something to do with a tractor beam..........but before I run out and purchase one I wanted to double check how it's done.

Thanks.

Just mine a lot and you will randomly get them as you mine (they appear in your inventory, separate from the stack of asteroid resources and look like a rock).

Wow I think I can answer this question!

The asteroid chunk is actually one of the um....

(looks at cheat sheets)

5 types of chunks that randomly come out when you are mining. While you are tractor beamins, (shooting?) your roids, you will get a message saying you find an odd chunk and is placed in your storage (it appears to not to effect your cargo hold space)

These chunks are:

Mishapen, Colorful, Strange, Glowing, and Ancient

I am assuming that ancient is the hardest to get cause I have yet to see one after 75k of space mining (only one glowy) and a total of about 8 chunks all together. For me the most to least is Strange, Misshapen, Colorful, Glowing, and then Ancient (cause I have none LOL)

These chunks are used for ship chassis texture kits for shipwrights to make. Each chunk is used for a different type of chassis.

if they are for any other crafting, I have not read it yet.

Hope that answers it!

Please correct if in err. Thanks!

Seriously? lol

Do you think it has anything to do with the smaller chunks that can't be blown up? For some reason every so often I get a small chunk that normally would blow up on 3 or 4 shots and go into my cargo hold...but instead these particular chunks (I have had them on different asteroids as well) I can plug away at with my laser, 20, 30 shots, and nothing...... I was thinking maybe I had to grab those with a tractor beam and "pull them in"........lol

Ahhhh well, I will keep playing with this for some nice diversion.

Thanks a bunch for your help/input. If anyone else has anything to add just fire away.

This is a shot in the dark

But check your location on the ones that you cannot shoot.

I ran into that too only to find that they were "fly papered" to the 8000 area (-8000 as well)

once they reach that, you can shoot at them all day and yes they will still move, but only along the "wall" and cannot be collected, destroyed.

At least for me...

You'll get a spatial notification once you loot a chunk btw.

If a poisonous snake is dropped on top of you from a gyrocopter, don’t freak out and shoot your own driver with your arrow gun, making the vehicle lose control and blow up. Its probably just as scared as you are.
