I'm promoting a server-wide PvE event on Lowca on Wednesday 9/28/2005 and would like some feedback from the community on the format. Is this the kind of thing you'd participate in? Do you think newish players would enjoy something along these lines? Do you foresee problems?
The Lowca space community is slowly transforming from infant to toddler status. I think we're in danger of losing our momentum if we don't continue to add fresh pilots to the mix, so I'm promoting this event with the goal of drawing new players into the core community.
Format: When you /comm the Avatar Platform in Kash space, and don't heed the 'warn off' message, the platform spawns 3 aggressive tier 3 khiraxz fighters a short distance from the subject. I plan to organize event participants into 8 pilot groups and have them continually spawn new groups of fighters. I haven't tested this yet, but I believe it'll result in 24-ship waves for the group to handle.
That's the content, in a nutshell.
The goal is to get new pilots experience flying in a group and developing the situational awareness skills that come with dealing with chaos in space. The most important benefit for our purposes on Lowca is that it will draw (hopefully) many new pilots onto our public pilot-centric chat channel - they'll join for the purposes of event coordination, then ideally just leave the channel up in the aftermath so that they're drawn into our fold of core pilots. I'll have several experienced aces on hand to keep the commo flowing. People will be encouraged to discuss the stats on items they loot, tactics, their current loadouts, etc.
My main concern is lag. Kash space is already bad, the avatar is no bag of peaches, and the turrets won't help any.
One question I've not been able to answer yet: are there other content areas where one can cause enemy ships to spawn almost at will in a similar fashion? Exclude bomber strike and pirate trap for the purposes of this discussion.
I look forward to comments. I plan to post an announcement for this event soon. I'll do a post-mortem on it here if anyone is interested in hearing how it turned out.

Could be fun. If it was my server I'd go just for the fun of it. One suggestion - before you organize it, I'd test it to make sure you really can create that many waves.

Yeah I'm going to draw off a few people after our weekly pvp event tonight to test it out.
