After completing the Tier 4 exit mission, my trainer gave me the option of doing either the Rebel or Imperial corvette missions (rebel on Corellia, imperial on Naboo). I initially went to the rebel guy and he gave me the mission where I have to kill 30 imperial fighters. Then I thought, damn, I hate chasing down those little buggers, esp the ones that fire from the rear. I also remembered that I much prefer rebel gunboats to imperial. So I cancelled the mission from my datapad. I went to the guy on Naboo and he just calls me a dog and won't give me the mission. I don't have a lot of imperial faction (20) but it's enough to be considered "imperial on leave".
So I'm not sure whether it's because I initially started it up with the rebels, or whether I just need more imperial faction to talk to the guy, or something else.

I am pretty sure that once you accept the mission. You are stuck with it. It is too late to change your mind.
