The FAQ says that you need to be overt to get faction in space. I am just curious, being a new pilot I would have no chance in a PvP fight. Howoften do you run into PCs while doing faction space missions? It would be great to get faction and XP, but I don't want to be blown away every 5 mins lol.

I go overt then head into Deep Space all the time on Sunrunner, so far i have only ran into a Rebel PC once. Its very easy to make 3-4k faction in an hour in Deep Space with a good ship!

Rarely if ever, especially if you stay out of the systems with gateways to Deep Space and Kessel (Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor). The only server where there are more than a few players who seek PvP is starsider, and your sig doesn't show you playing there, so 99% of the time you ought to be safe.
Tips for being prepared:
1) Map the 'Target Nearest Enemy Player' to a button on your joystick, or tap the key for it once every minute or two.
2) write a hyperspace escape macro (instructions in the FAQ)
3) set your title to Initiate or go /anon. Honorable hunters will more than like leave you be if you look like a rookie just gaining xp and a bit of fp on the side. If I encountered you while in a roleplaying mood, I would match in on your six, send a cease and desist comm, fire a warning shot, and wait for you to hyper to another sector
