Ive read numerous posts about people getting fp in space. Well... I just got back from killing at least 200 ties in deep space while I was overt and I didnt get a single FP. Do I have to declare at a space station or something? I just went overt in coronet cantina and launched into space. What am I doing wrong?

I have been awarded Faction Points for completing faction-based missions, but that's it so far. Though I am only 2/3/2/2 so I'd hardly call myself the definitive source on all things JtL. I can tell you that I do not seem to be getting Faction Points from killing random TIEs.

Yeah I got some FP while working my way up the tree but I keep hearing about all these people getting loads of FP for being overt in space...

as rukkk says you must declare in space (at a imperial or rebel station) to gain fp from killing

Can a privateer pilot do this to gain FP (or lose negative fp)

yes if you are part of either the Empire or the Rebel Alliance you can declare at a station (at least I know you can declare for Rebels if you are Neutral Smuggler's Alliance)

As far as I understand, freelancers can declare at either rebel or imp faction locations. Keep in mind that if you are imp and want to get rid of some negative rebel faction, you will loose imp faction for each imp you kill while trying to get rid of bad rebel faction.
I think you know what I mean. So yeah you can improve negative faction standing in space much easier than you can on the ground (go from rebel to imp in a couple hours even if you have -5000) But you will also lose the positive faction standing you previously had with your previous faction.

peeps have said it but its kinda all jumbled so here it is straight and clear:
Covert/Overt on the ground means NOTHING in space.
if you want FP in space you have to declare at a faction space station despite what your status is on the ground.
