I am currently 1211 Pilot and I cannot get past the Hand mission on my own. I have enough XP to get another box of training, but can I train without completing the Hand mission? If so, where do I go to get trained. Sorry for the n00b question, but I don't go into space much.

You will not be able to train your next skill without completing the requisite plot mission. If you can not do it alone, try to convince a friend to help you. If you have no friends, you can ask some of the people listed in the 'Pilot Helper List' thread to see if they are available.
