Thread: a few questions about flight computers

Couldn't find this info anywhere:

I have capacitor overload 2 on my droid. I tried replacing it withcapacitor 3, didn't work, tried cap 4 didn't work. Each time it took a chip, but nothing 'commited'. what did I do wrong?

What is the downside to running everything overloaded? Engine, reactor, weapons, capacitor etc?

What is capacitor to shield shunt?

What does reactor overload do?

What's you favourite colour?

Will these scabs heal on their own?

Thanks for you help.

The only thing SOE could make that doesn't suck is a vacuum cleaner. Fix the effing game, and I'll fix my account.

What Level is your flight computer, and is there room for the new chip to fit in? Check the little bar on the right side of the gump when you're programming it. You may have to remove some programs.

What is the downside to running everything overloaded? Engine, reactor, weapons, capacitor etc? For your opponents, the downside is getting hammered by stronger weapons from a faster ship. For you, the overload programs do damage to the component they overcharge. As long as you don't go over Overcharge 3 on reactors, engines, capacitors and weapons you can get 100% repair at a space station with no decay.

What is capacitor to shield shunt? Takes the energy from your weapon capacitor and recharges your shields.

What does reactor overload do? Ups the energy output of your reactor, so you can stick in a L1 reactor, punch it up with Reactor Overload 3 and have enough energy to power up all those really nasty powerful weapons.

What's you favourite colour? Blue

Will these scabs heal on their own? Not if you keep picking at them.

Thanks for you help.

Hope that helps!

I've had the same problem. I seem to have better success with droid programs (that come from others on chips) if I analyze first and then try to load it. I also make an effort to always do my droid/flight computer programming outside (just me being paranoid from an old JTL Beta bug)

The level 4 overload programs do permanent damage to your components, so it's unwise to use those unless you're in deep space as an Ace pilot (no damage when you leave deep space).

Cap to Shield shunt takes the energy stored in your weapons capacitor and puts it in your shields. It's extremely useful when you're taking heavy damage and need to take a breath (I live by it).

I'm partial to green actually, but grey (err gray!) is a strong second.

Yes they will if you don't pick at them.

/salute

Gawd I can't wait until I can edit posts!

What you want on your Flight Computer or droid (in my opinion) is Reactor Overload, Capacitor Overload, Engine Overload, and Weapon Overload 3.

You'll also want Capacitor to Shield Shunt 3 or 4. CSS 3 takes "most" of your capacitor energy, CSS 4 takes all of it, leaving you unable to fire until your capacitor recharges (which is pretty fast since you've got Cap Overload 3 running too)

Thanks, it does help alot, but the reactor part still puzzles me. If I don't have enough reactor power, can I even launch? Ie, when I'm managing my ship, a reactor not sufficient will have red text.

You can take off with an underpowered reactor. You can see if you have enough power in the ship management screen. If your reactor number is in the read, then you're components are drawing more power than your reactor can produce.

If you're over your reactor capacity, some components may not work. If you're just over by a few points, don't worry, but at some point, components quit working because they don't have enough power. I believe that your countermeasure launcher is the first thing to go, followed by your other missile launchers, guns, shield, and booster. Reactor Overload programs make for a good way around that power problem and allow you to run a lower tier, low mass reactor. However, bear in mind that the other overload programs (Capacitor, Engine, and Weapon) increase the reactor power drain for the overloaded component. Meaning that if you only have enough power to run everything at normal levels when you have Reactor Overload 3 enabled, running Engine Overload 3 is going to put you back in the same situation that RO3 solved.

That's where some of the tuning programs can be useful. Personally, I don't think that I'd ever run Engine Tuning, but Capacitor Tuning with a nice RE'd capacitor seems workable. Weapon Tuning when you're running good L8 or L9 guns also seems potentially viable, especially if you're in either a PvP environment where those weapons are overkill, or you're going up against enemies two or more tiers below you.

Wanted to thank everyone for the help. I loaded up my FC, and man, what a difference programs make. No wonder I found some missions so hard lol.
