Thread: Pilot Correspondent query: Answer forthcoming on faction requirements for ARC-170 and ETA-Actis II
EITHER we need the cert removing from the rebel ( and I'm guessing the ARC cert removing from imp ) OR it needs the quest requirement removing. I simply do not have the time to drop from 4343 ( training error on the first level 4 box ) rebel pilot with -800 imp FP's to gain the imp FP's, do the quest ( AGAIN - I did it on an alt who is a noob pilot and non-factioned ) then releran rebel pilot etc.
This to me is a VERY big issue as it's essentially bad advatising ( and a little inconsistent as strictly speaking the bellabub is as much an imperial ship as the JSF ) in so much as there is nothing to indicate this ship is different to any other certed ship ( including the bellabub which can be flown by a non-quest completed person - assuming that it is quested )"
But, as to your concern, this text is from the HoC chat log....
Brekkee - *TheOne* Will it ever be possible for rebels to get the ETA-2 ship and Imperials to get the ARC-170...because dropping your faction and switching and then dropping your piloting profession to get a ship and badge and then regrinding back is very time consuming...will this be changed?
Shadowbrak - There are no plans to change the Rebel/Imperial requirements for the Actis and ARC-170 quests.

That's the trouble with this bunch, "NO PLANS"
What I don't get is why people assume they should be able to get the ships without worrying about faction. It is a perfectly reasonable requirement to limit the content.
If I do the work to get the ship, I still want the option to change sides someday. That's what the cross cert is for, and there has been this constant assumption it was meant to be the reverse. It just plain, ISN'T and that is ok.
It's up to every individual to choose for their character. Pick a guild, pick a profession, pick a side, all of it. The fact that content is continually added to the game sometimes makes the side you pick less desirable than it used to be. When that happens you have to make another choice. Plain and simple.
I guess I'm saying, deal. It's not game breaking, no one lied to you, and at the very least it gives you something to work at for a while. Each quest makes sense in itself, and trying to apply the logic of where each ship "belongs" is pointless. That decision was made, and now we get to deal.
It's been repeated a few times that the cross-faction certs are there specifically so that if you decide at some point to swap piloting profs, you can redeed and reuseyour fighters once you're back to T4. Any proposal that removes these certs cross-faction actually REDUCES the numbers of pilots able to use them.
Freelancers can do either the ARC or Actis missions, so the certs need to be in that tree. Period.
But in the dev chat they mentioned that there were no plans to remove faction-limits from these quests. That makes sense, as your faction-orientation is critical in the story of each quest (for the ARC you rescue wookies from an Imperial compound, in the Actis quest you borrow Vader's ship to kill a bunch of Rebels). But notice that they didn't say whether they'd be adding new quests later for opposite factions.

I did bring this up a couple times with them; I know it's a pain to jump through the hoops just to get the new ships if you're not the "right" faction for them. But given their steadfastness on the issue and that there are mechanics to let you fly the Eta-2 or ARC no matter what your faction--you've just got to get them first, then you can switch factions as you please--my advice to the pilots who've asked me about this is to suck it up and switch sides for the few days it takes. I just don't see the situation changing any time soon.
JaekeW,
My thoughts exactly. It really is somewhat depressing to think about really especially considering the long list of things that are most likely filed in a trashbin labeled "There are no plans to change this at this time." ![]()
Psikobunny,
Hon, it's not a matter really of the mechanic behind it since in a lot of cases it would'nt be kosher to see a Rebel pilot run around in a TIE Interceptor any more than it would to see an Imperial running around in an X-Wing. As I stated in my initial post in this particular case it could be argued for or against either the ARC-170 or the other ship to be flown by either side.
The entire "I guess I'm saying, deal." answer really is not an answer and I think you and I both know that. If that was the case then honestly why have forums, Correspondents, or heck customer service at all. For that matter, I do not think it fair for you belittle what I thought was a honest question. But, to each their own I suppose.
TomoRainer,
Normally I try and use the search function to find this information but with it being broken, and not seeing any mention of it beyond the one I linked to going back about a month, I was curious to see as to why it had not come up any further. I'd be lying to say if I was disappointed in the "No plans to change at this time" answer but it is something I suppose I should get used to. *sigh*
And, I guess I did'nt clarify this well enough, it's really not a matter of having to jump thru hoops to get a particular item. More like that it would force someone to drop their particular faction affiliation to getand fly a ship that, by all rights, should not be exclusive to either side which is how it works now. If anything both sides should be able to fly them but, I guess I'm in the minority on this since SOE decreed it so. *shrug*
For you to get and fly the ARC-170 you need to be Rebel so I was lead to understand. You drop your cert and switch over to Imperial and, sure, you still have the ship but you can not take it out. And I'm sure the reverse is also true though I could not say for certain.
In either event, thank you for responding to my post.
Why make everything easy and boring anyhow? Factions have different ships, get over it. Really bothers me the way everyone wants equal access to all content, what would be the point of different factions then anyway? The Actis and the ARC are not the end all of ships, and every faction already has similar vessels to those two anyhow. Not to mention the fact that it isn't hard to find a good roleplaying reason swap factions, and definately doesn't take long. My Imperial pilot decided to go undercover and steal an ARC, piece of cake.
I've always wanted a Rihk as an Imperial pilot, but guess what? I can't have it. I'd love to fly an XWing just for style, but same deal. Why should these deeds be any different? The dev's designed it that way, just play the game. I'd rather see them actually fix some of the bugs before worrying about details like this.

They did say in that chat that they will recheck the balance of the new ships vs the old. I don't mind the JSF as an opponent but by now I'm starting to wish they nerf the hell out of it just to stop this threads appearing.
No one cares about imp/reb themepark being restricted or various other quests. Only a few care about the ARC. The only reason these threads about the JSF keep popping up is a "I want to be uber too" attitude.
Attacca,
I went back thru what I posted and nowhere did I even hint at or allude to a desire for equal access to all content.I also did notdebate the necessity for there to even be faction ships and/or items. As to going thru grinding two different pilot trees, to say nothing of going thru 5k faction, just to wind up with a ship you can not use in the end? That does not make sense to me.
Washell,
Honestly, it really does'nt have anything to do with the "uberness" of a particular ship. Just would have liked to have flown around in one.
