Thread: Camping the load point in DS?
With fighter speeds as they are now, you can get to the load point even if your three kilometers away and blast a ship away before the pilot has even finished loading.
Many people say they're not "near" the load points so they're not camping.
Blowing up people before they finish loading up in Deep Space will cause damage that is not repaired by the "decay free" attribute of Deep Space.
You all know where the load points are, so if you see a ship sitting there please do not shoot at them until they start maneouvers, not when they're just starting to move forward.
this is not correct, on any level.
upon loading in deep space you are forced "nuetral" for at least 5 seconds. during that time period you cannot be attacked by players, nor can you attack players. i have a slow machine and i still get 5 seconds of this when loading into the zone, and i know others do as well. this fix was put in the same publish that PVP was removed from kessel and it has been like this ever since.
now, rushing to sit next to a loading ship is possible, shooting him the second he becomes vulnerable is possible, but decay resulting from it most certainly is not, except due to sporadic bug.
personally, i think the resulting /report (and soon to follow multiple reports if you make it a habit) not to mention the embarassment of being shot down by a fighter after you tried to spawn camp him, would deter anyone from trying this deplorable tactic.
that being said, shooting them while loading isn't possible, unless something literally changed in the last 2 days.

Due to this "neutrality", a pilot coming into deepspaceis unable to easily identify hostile pilots. This is more true today as there are nowand increasing number of cross factional ships. The pilot "camping" the load point is given a severe tactical advantage of being able to identify a loading ship as a hostile by the virtue of his load point. This also gives him a positional advantage and having a solid missile lock before the other ship is able to even fight back lowers the survivability of the loading pilot.

Sporadic as it may seem this bug does occur and ships still can be destoryed while "loading" and still can incur decay.

New master pilots entering deep space for the first timefrequently get drawn into "camping spawn" points as they don't realize that is it the load point.

Since you brought up the "5 second" saftey margin I felt compelled to indicate a tactic that could be used to circumvent it. The five second "safety" margin is not as safe as some people assume.
The following is a separate issue.
When a ship enters deep space, there is a milli second of time, when the ship is registered as PvP (ie: it was entering deepspace declared) before it are changed to neutral for the five seconds. This also happens for neutral pilots if they've previously declared in deep space. This moment of vunerability does occur during the begining loading phase when the ship is instantiated. Amazingly enough there are people out there that have fast enough reflexes to take advantage of this. You can still load in deep space and discover yourself exploding. Yes, it's exploitable. Yes, it's reportable. No, the person doing the camping doesn't necessarily know that this is seen as bad ettiquete. I don't assume a person is being malicious when he doesn't know any better. Am I saying people should stop going to deep space because of this? No. Have I loaded into Deep Space only to find my self exploding...yes. In fact this just happened two days ago. Did it stop me from going back into deep space? No. Is the sky falling? Definately not...unless your Chewbacca....poor furball...
The pilots that I have encountered have stopped "camping" the load points as I explained to them the problem. They claim they didn't realize it was the load point and they proptly stopped camping the load point. I felt no need to report them. I'm trying inform the fledging masters of proper space ettiquete.
...look for yellow dots. There should be only two colors in DS - white and red. During the brief "neutral" time, enemy players show up as yellow dots.
Bah. In any PvP scenario, you have to expect that. In just about any game i can think of there is some form of load killing, lag killing, door lag, spawn camping, etc that people exploit. No ,its not cool, i dont personnaly do it, but ive accepted it as a fact of life with gaming. Kinda like death and taxes in real life.
That said, id never spawn camp. However ive been known to "loiter" around certain factional stations in endor and dantooine *evil grin*. For some people being load killed in DS is the least of their worries

If you want see this split second of vunerability try loitering around the load point and spam 'Z'. You don't nessicarily have to be right on the spawn point just in range enough to lock on to them. It will target a ship loading. You'll remain locked of them after they shift to neutral. This is providing of course there are no other hostiles in deep space and there is some one hypering in. Test with an opposing faction that's a buddy.
yes, the opposing target loads into the zone as a hostile but the important point here is even if you try to shoot him you cannot. he may be red to you, but you get the beeps the second your blasters hit him and those beeps will continue until 5 full seconds after the graphics have loaded on his screen.
sorry dude. i bet i could test this 100 times and get the same result.
