Thread: A-Wing vindication
I stand by the belief I've stated several times on this board. Its not about beating the plane, its about beating the pilot. (And L6 Reward engines still kick ass)
Also, the drain on said L6 will be so drool-inspiringly low (perhaps the lowest ever recorded, to my knowledge) that EO4 won't be an enormous tax on it, closing the gap even further between pre-nerf and QID.

The JSF, Bel, and whatnot are simply ships. Of the Two PvP experiences I've had so far, both were against these. The Pilot of the Bel was farming, and, I don't believe was aware of me until, perhaps, the final shot. The JSF, on the other hand, began running before I ever engaged it. I was also in a Bel, at the time.
I encounter Pilots, and attitudes, in a great variety of craft. That the JSF and the Bel garner such noteriety points to... what? They are not even Ace level certs. For a new pilot, such as myself, these are extremely viable vessels. Excellent mods, more than adequate mass, and with two weapons and one ordance slot, can perform well in most situations, so it seems. The vindictaveness And the extreme adoration which many Pilots approach these craft is evidence of this. Some people love thier A - Wings and their Y - Wings, a ship I regularly assault verbaly, with unwarranted aggression. The X-Wing, the Vask, the Oppressor and the Crimson Tie all have their ardent admirers, though, in many cases for the ecentricity of using them, as well as the Pure Pride of Skill in being Pilot enough to take on any encounter and do well, And, being able to optimize their favorite Chassis's.
I sometimes make the mistake, when I see a JSF, or a Bel, out and about that these Pilots must be good, and then I remember thatthe ETA and the Bel are simply certs on the Pilot Tree, and, not that difficult to get at all (I have two Bels. One major benefit to them being that they are cross faction. Which, is excellent when you are Acing all three). The JSF is a free Ship, and the Bel Can be (I bought mine for a combined total of about 900K, more or less. I Think I might have picked one up at 350K and the other at 450K but I can't recall any longer). Frankly, I've seen Piss poor pilots in every container, make and model, in far larger quantities than I've seen really good ones. I can't say that Pilots that don't know their stuff are more likely to fly JSF's or Bel's than any other ship, particularly because, for a vast majority of Pilots on my server, most will never get there to use them, or, be ignorant of what options they have in the way of acquiring them. Truth be told. For all the Aces out there who have needed to take out their vette with the help of a group, or, even two, there are far more who will never Master their proffession, or even hit 4-3-3-3.
Double post!

sounds like fun! sucks you got pulsed though, i hate when people use the iwin buton.
and while piloting abilitty is more important than a good ship, it takes both to win agianst a skilled opponent. i had an awing vs awing duel last night, and he hit me twice before i got my single hit in on his reactor. we both had a similar gun, but i had a 2200/2200 protecto and was running adjust front moderate for 3300/1100. i took a hit, and shunted it off completely. i would have lost without that shield.
just as important as piloting skill, is your ability to properly equip your ship for the fight.
I took my shiney new Oppressor out to DS to test out my configuration (nothing special 2 L8 looted guns and 3 proton 3's). Iwas going crazy trying to kill awings without my advanced, whenmy constant spamming fo the z key locked onto a JSFabout 3k away. he hadn't seen me yet or made no move toward me so I figured what the heck. I went full throttleand hit the boosters heading straight for him. At about 1500m he saw me coming and spun for the joust. I figured that I could afford to be hit once or even twice (RE L8 reward shields) and in an oppressor any attempt at dodging would be all but useless anyway. So I held steady and to my surprise so did he but he never fired a shot. I let of a couple shots nothing even close since I was looking for missile lock. I finally got a lock at about 100m or less and in the split second (I was going 1100+ and he was going faster than that)before we passes each other the missiles fired. At that range he didn't have any time at all to chaff. Next thing I know I am being accused of "lag exploiting", because he didn't get a missile warning till after he past me. What do you guys think? personnaly I think he was whinning because a big slow pre-RotW ship whooped him in his ub3r 1337 JSF.
Edit: BTW the lesson to be learned here is never joust an Oppressor. Missile lock is too easy to get.

Heh, I had the Epulse coming. I had him engine crippled, then veered off to avoid fire from the ISD. Next thing I know, I get popped and off to Dantooine I go. He nailed me clean, personally I have no problem at all with a Freelancer using it as a LastDitch to pull his butt out of the fire. As I said on the Kett board about it, "there's no such thing as a crippled Freelancer".

Yup...I was happy to at least hit you twice but yeh, I learned a lot from that..was a good duel. I think I'll get front adjust working. Only thing is..is it possible to get RO4, EO4, WO3, CO4, Shield shunt 4 and Front adjust working on the same FC? I tried stuffing it on mine [which has the first five commands listed] but it wouldn't fit. Is there a difference to how much space different lvl 6 flight computers can have? In that area I'm not really sure.

I must have a pretty shoddy FlightComp then. Time to harrass a droid engineer me-thinks.
