Thread: What is your PvP starship of choice?

I'm just curious. What do you guys normally fly in space PvP and why?

Personally, I love the X-Wing. It is the best-known fighter from any Star Wars movie and increases the immersion of the game.

The X-Wing also the most flexible ship out there in terms of loadout. Yes, it has "only" 100K mass. But, it has 3 gun slots. In PvP, you can skimp on the guns and pop 3 RE'd Level 5's in the X and still be a viable threat (especially since you've probably squeezed an RE'd L10 in there.) A "praying and spraying" X-Wing in a decent furball can really keep the opposing force on its toes.

As for handling, it has an extremely high acceleration along the pitch axis and its optimal throttle setting for turns is lower than the lighter fighters so that you have a chance at staying inside their turns.

I don't PvP much, but when I do I use either my Krayt or my Vaksai. None of them are top-of-the line PvP ships, since I'm lacking the good loot, for REing components, but for casual PvP, they're good. If I run into a full time space PvPer, I'm dead, though.
The krayt is a lumbering chunk of armour, shields and heavy firepower, designed to survive a head to head run, and take out the enemy in the process. Also equipped with a huge booster, if the first run doesn't succeed (most of the time I die, though).
The Vaksai is a speed devil, with the biggest, meanest and fastest engine I could find. I use it for hit and run, since the engine has such a crappy PYR that I never survives a turning battle. Also, a nice shield and a heavy blaster (gotta love those 150K mass ), mark IV protons and sensory decoy counter measures.

Vaksai (Viper!) is a good pvp ship, but imo you need to stay offensive with her... I rrrreally wish there was a second gunport though. I have a JSF too, but the stigma annoys me so I leave her home during pvp...

I am trying to train up a crew for 'the Platinum Seagull' - but so far no good

I liked the RGI - but (hellooooo hitbox)... and of course a tricked out TIE/A is good to go.

A-wing.

I've worked hard on that ship and would go as far as saying, I know them inside and out. Every time I launch though I try and get more out of the ship.

I like it because it handles well with a nice balance between speed and r,p,y acceleration modifiers. True, I prefer the TIE INterceptors and TIE Advanced r,p,y acc. but I think it gives credit to the handling of the A-wing if you can handle the slightly slower reaction time. It's handling modifiers are rather quirky and it has a small hitbox, but not the smallest. In addition, I just think the thing looks cool. It is one of those ships that I believe takes real experience in order to get results out of. I mean, you can give a new pilot a JSF and they'll do ok with it. Give them an A-wing and they'll probably ask you if you're being serious.

I enjoy the fact that the ship has clear limitations such as not being able to perform very well at all at low speed, having light weaponary and less room for defence against hits but it's strengths make up for it if you use it right. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't get a kick out of bringing down Relics with the thing.

I kind of feel that A-wing pilots are a 'dying breed' in some ways. I mean, I've only ever had the privelage of flying with Kitten at one event before I moved to SS and she really seems to have set the standard for would be A-wingAces etc but I havn't seen her flying around much at all. Janu too seems to be moving onto a Heavy-95 and yeh, there are other A-wingers like Bendo but he doe sfly a variety of craft so as far as dedicated A-wing pilots go, I could only name a few these days.

I really do like the ship though.

TIE Interceptor, all the way. I first flew it out into DS as a joke, and quickly realized (like Leaph did) how balanced these lighter ships are. It's just a fun ship to fly. And if they ever fix the RGI, Bloodfin pilots beware!

Lately I've been thinking of working on my TIE Advanced next.

TIE Interceptor... it just looks cool and its fun to fly. While the advanced has more mass and it being designed by vader is definitly a plus, It looks alot like a box to me.

Jedi starfighter. It's got more maneuvrability than any ship I've flown. I've never flown a rebel ship, so I can't have a word on those.

1) A-Wing. My all-purpose solo PvP ship. When I'm entering Deepspace alone, looking for trouble. It's small, fast, maneuverable at full throttle, packs a decent punch for a little one-gun ship.

2) Advanced X-Wing. I'll go back and get this when someone in an Actis ticks me off, or I'll sometimes use it in large group engagements, backing up the smaller Interceptors with a lot of firepower.

3) Y-Wing Longprobe. Ok, so I'm nuts. Destroyed a fairly well-regarded pilot on my server 1 v 1 in his Interceptor. Since it's my #3 ship, loadout is incomplete. Huge L10 and L8 guns, pair of MK4 protons. Small RE6 engine, MK4 shields. Cap and booster are way oversized. Need to trim some fat to fit a reward shield (just REd one with 26k mass) and an L8 or L10 engine without the alternate Enterprise-like nacelles. The LP is bigger than an X-Wing and considerably slower, but it doesn't handle all that badly with a good engine, and does have a VERY slim profile f/b and side.

4) B-Wing. For me, kind of a cross between the X-Wing and the Longprobe. Sluggish, but lots of firepower in a wide-spread pattern, lots of missiles. Good for backing up Interceptors and Space Superiority fighters in a large group thing. I can reliably handle Firesprays and other large ships in the B-Wing solo. Obviously, doesn't do very well against small ships like the Actis or TIE Interceptor.

5) Nova Courier. I love using these things in PvP. With a high PYR L10 engine, Elite Shields, and Elite Armor, I use the Nova for hunting Jedi Starfighters with extreme prejudice In most cases I'm able to out-turn them (higher PYR), although since I can't change direction as fast as they can, it can be tricky anticipating maneuvers and counteracting inertia. Usually able to get a good missile lock and fire off a trio of IR2s before they've landed enough shots to buckle the shields. Since I fly the Nova like a fighter, my gunners do have a hard time lining up shots, but suprisingly enough, they've landed some pretty solid hits on the little buggers. POBs are very underrated IMO, and should be fairly well powered after publish 24.

I am a decent pvper in my JSF (imho), but I have been moving away from it lately because flying that little maneuverable fighter tends to spoil me andallow me win fights that I probably shouldn't win normally. This is especially true when I put my RE'dlvl 10 engine in it. So, I have been using my heavy tie much to the surprise of a lot of people, imperial and rebel and found it quite enjoyable, even though it is a lot easier to get shot down in it. I have gotten a few other imperials on my server to start using them as well. Last night there were three of us in heavy ties patrolling deep space. hehe It felt good though to be in a classic design and it gave us a very "Star Wars" feel.

We are actually putting together our first pvp roleplaying event on Bria (well my first)and it is going to be something special, I hope. We are going with all classic fighters for it. So, no prequel fighters. So, the rebs will have their Z95s and perhaps some other classic fighter designs and we are going to have some heavy ties, Tie/INs, standard Interceptors, and bombers. It should be an interesting experience. I just have to convince more pilots to fight outside of DS. A lot of pilots are very picky about decay. I don't mind it,really. And we are going to all agree to not target engines, so hopefully more pilots will either not worry about it or use some backup components instead of their best ones so that they'll participate.

Depends what mood I'm in really. If I'm in a "I want to go out and see who I can beat without too much trouble" I'll use my JSF (sorry to say). If I'm in a "Hmm I need a challenge and have a group of mates with me" I'll use my Nova. But, as I'mm looking to use my A-wing more and more, just to show I can pvp in ships other than a JSF, I'm looking to fit this out so that I can do as well as in my JSF. If i can do that. I will use that over the JSF, even though i do like the vis in the JSF, and it is a very cool ship.
