I need some clearification please!

At the moment I am an Imperial Pilot 3/3/3/2 and I have a question about the advancement in the pilot tree!

Is it possible to learn new skills without struggling through those darn missions at the Emperors Retreat? Because as it is today you have absolutely no use of the Starship Combat Experience because you cant train in new skills anyway when you want.

Because I read another thread in this forum and it said something about double xp week and advancing in pilot!

Recently I have started flying again. I stopped playing JTL a while ago because of this stupid thing that you must do some pointless missions at Emperors Retreat.

I would be glad if someone could clear this up for me!

Members of the Imperial Inquisition Squadron (i.e, you and I) must do the missions at the Emperor's retreat because our final Tier 4 trainer is in Lord Vader's room.

As for the double XP, it does come in quite useful during the Tier 4 grind because you need 1 million XP per Tier 4 box to train in the skills. Don't worry, though. The 7 million XP requirement for the Master box isn't true. You only need to do the two master box missions to be an Ace.

HOWEVER...

Don't bother going for Ace until the Respec process is over. Currently, mastering a pilot profession yields no badge. That means that when you resign, you get no XP bonus for mastering.

If you don't want to do the Emperor's Retreat missions, you can join either Storm Squadron or Black Epsilon Squadron. But be prepared to have A-Wings swarm you like gnats in Storm Squadron or face multiple gunships in Black Epsilon. The Imperial Inquisition is the easiest of the three.

All tier 3 skills are gotten though missions and don't use xp. You'll need xp again for tier 4 as well as having to do a mission and then back to pure missions for master.

Missions are not pointless, missions in JtL are a progressive challenge, so that Pilot is a different experience than just grinding the profession like a mindless drone. Try *gasp* enjoying the story and playing like you're a person in the world, not just here to get uber.

Story? Go to dathimor and patrol...3 waypoint you find a yt-1300 you are suppose to inspect. Can't inspect cause it blows up as soon as you hit the I key. Mission failed...back to the Inquisitor. Lets do this 6 times. It is mindless grinding...and I am here to become uber!

um...have you tried maybe DISABLING the YT-1300 before you attempt to inspect it?

Well of course, what a stupid question. The trick I found is to disable the engine's, then the 0 gun first and then the 1 gun. But if you have powerful guns you do too much damage and the ship blows while inspecting or docking. I also think that if you disable the 1 gun first it automatically blows up. You just have to be really careful and not fire a second shot after the last gun is disabled. Which is challenging because your taking hits the whole time and my 1700 shields were gone.

But this intrigueing wonderful story mission goes on. You aquire the crystal from the runner, get a flash of a message from an imperial officer that is so fast you can't read what he says. The system messages go so fast you don't have time to see what the next "plot" twist is. No bid deal just go to journal and find out. Oops whats this? A spawn of 7-8 tier 4 ships before you can even catch your breath and find out what the next step of the mission is. How odd for that to happen in JTL. Well really no big deal, I spent the day killing lots of tier 4's without much trouble and that was solo, now I got a wingman to help. Sure enough we further the story along by killing all but 1 of the ships, then suddenly a system message saying I failed the mission...Have to start the great storyline all over again???

Right now I think the developers are sadistic jerks. I don't care if they ban me for life. I have played so many games and only JTL upsets me to the point I want to punch something.
