Well... here's the answer!
I need to give Storm Squadron some credit. First off it took me about 20 in-game hours to solo Storm Squadron. I diedtwice on Tier 3 and once on tier 4. In tier 3 there was a mission with 2 gunboats and some escorts. In tier 4 the exit mission had a gunboat, 2 nova's, and some escorts. I really wasn't prepared for that.
On that tier four mission I was almost ready to ask for help! So, going through the cert's in order (all re'ed parts though) it took me longer than Imperial Inquisition or Smugglers Alliance. Although I blame that on the long drawn out escorts... 2 BWings, 4 AWings... wait.... 5 XWings.... wait... rinse and repeat.
So there ya have it, would I say Storm Squadron is the hardest? Hmmm.. . well, that kinda depends on what you consider hard. Storm Squadron just tested my patience and at about two points really tested my skills, but then again... those 2 missions got me a couple of times.
So honestly, it wasn't a walk through the park, but it's on par with Black Epsilon.. just in a different way if you know what I mean.
(Off topis a bit... Soon as I aced I went to DS to fight Ritha.. if you get a chance.. duel this guy! Damn good pilot and hinirable duelsman. Last I looked.. Ritha 3, Me 2... I need to practice! /salute)

Vegitaa and 1st Viduus
I am gunning for you guys. I will be starting Storm Squadron sometime this week. I have 5 aces under my belt, Havoc, Smug. Alliance, RSF, Imp. Inquistion, and Black Epsilon.
18 hours is the time to beat. Mind you I will not do this straight through. I would have an incredible headache if I played 18 hours straight. but I pledge to log my time and report it honorably.
If nothing else, bragging rights may be in order!

Hehehehe... Well, may have to double check with Vid on his time... He did it literally in about a day, took me 4 days (about 20 hours in-game though, I just didn't have the time/oppurtunity to be logged in that long at a time!)
I think I'm stopping at Ace #4. Honestly because if I go finish the other 2 nuetrals that means I'll have to do one of the Imperials over again. I liked Nuetral but there's just something about flying an intercepter that makes me smile!
Dying to get my hands on that Crimson Guard TIE next month!!!

CANNOT be soloed, I dont care what u say.!!!
LMAO! Well.. I have multiple pilots in my guild alone that have solo'ed Storm Squadron, including myself. Believe it or not.. 20 hours = Storm Squadron solo'ed without using the "already in datapad" trick.
Besides the x3 modifier for exp I just used the appropriate ships and components at the appropriate levels within the tiers.
First Tier 3 SS mission I was in a TIE/IN with cert 4&5 re'ed components. So didn't do anything differently than most except that I already had a stockpile of good re's sitting around.

Is Storm Squadron any harder than Vortex Squadron? I heard it was the hardest Rebel Squadron, but I blew through Tiers 3 and 4 with a total mission time of about 4 hours.

Not really sure, I haven't flown any of the Rebel squadrons yet. (I started a toon on starsider to do this but haven't had the time to find out.)

Update:
After only 1 hour of playing I am 1111 in Storm Squadron.
Assuming Tier 2 will require 2-2.5 hours, tier 3 about 3.5 hours tier 4 maybe 5 hours and 2 master missions 1.5 hours (depending on vette spawn). I am looking hard to beat 1st Viduus time soloing Storm.
That said, if he did it on his first ace, tier 4 went slowly, I am on ace #5, so maybe we cannot compare properly

I do believe it was his third ace.. have to check his sig. I'll ask him how long it actually took him in terms of in-game hours just to be sure.

I believe in soloing everything I have done so far in game. I entered this game as a lone wolf and I plan to exit the game as a lone wolf. I don't believe in the word impossible. I agree it may be tough, and it may take weeks to develop a strategy, but I play at odd times, my RL schedule is not the "norm" and I don't mind it.

Soloplay vs Groupplay should be a choice. My playstyle leads me to being solo 90% of my time even though I'm constantly gabbing it up in guildchat.
I'm not to thrilled with the way we're being "guided" towards a more group-centric game now. As far as pilot is concerned though, right now the "average" newbie cannot solo past the first mission in Tier 3 depending on what pilot prof/squadron they choose.
Can it be done? Oh heck yeah. On the otherhand the "average" pilot will need help his first time through a tier 3 pilot prof.
I know I'll be solo even more once ROTW comes into play as I plan on mining every sector dry on a nightly basis. For me this is fine, for many other players they would rather be with a wingman.
2 different styles, both are equally valid.
