Galactic Civil War Expansion: Space

GCW Space
The objective of GCW space is for your faction to control the most space stations in space for control of a planets supplies(this is just for show), there ship dry-docks, and all starports on the planet below. But, even if you have a blockade it still does not mean you control the planets surface.

A More Indepth Look...
at GCW Space

GCW Space mainly deals with space stations...the object is to control as many faction space stations in a planet space sector. If you control a faction blockade(the points of your faction is large than your enemies in a space sector) your faction controls planet supplies(this is just really for show), public planet spaceports and starports, and all shipyard on the planet below.

If your faction has set-up an effective blockade over the system fleor atleast 60 days; the planet faction will automatically become that of the blockade's faction. But, during that 60 days the planet will still be running on a normal GCW factional system(which means all factional bases on the surface will determine planet faction.) Let me describe a effective blockade which is different from a basic blockade; it means that if the number of points that you faction has in space and ground total or more than the number of the opposing faction points on ground and in space total.

When a basic blockade is set-up(which means you out number only the opposing space faction point totals) you gain control of two important things ship dry-docks(at certain poi's which have to do with shipbuilding, a npc from your faction will be placed; he will be able to sell certain limited schematic space and speeder chassis and parts[each planet has a certain rare ship schematic and speeder schematic that only these faction npc's can sell to you on that planet only])
Ex 1. The T-16 canyon racer schematics can only be found at these faction npc's on the planet tatooine.

The other important thing the blockade gains control of is a planet's starports. Members of the opposing faction only cannot land their player ships at starports(if rebellion has a blockade, imperials cannot land their player ships on the planet; but since say Jabba faction is not an enemy faction of the rebellion, they can land on planet starports using their player ships.) But, all is not lost...you can still land your ship on the ground just not in any of the planet's npc city(this is a new feature that will becoming with the expansion, the ability to land your ship directly on the surface of a planet[and just like speeders, ships will decay if land outside of a starport over long perionds time.])

Players of oppisite faction will still be able to land in private starport(another new item coming in this expansion) located in player cities, which have not marked the starport to be put on the blockade starport system(a simply option which will work just like making a home private or public)(you can either allow a city starport to allow anyone to land or just those who faction does not oppose that of the blockade.) So, no matter what you will be able to land on a planet, but it will just not be very easy for opposing factions of the blockade. (The blockade will also not effect some planets like Kashyyyk and Dathomir so you land in all area including public starports)

I like some of the ideas here, especially the thought that a blockade of a planet will have direct results of how players can use starports on the ground. The way I see it is that if a faction is winning on the ground, they have a presence in every city. However if they are winning in space and on the ground then they control all but one starport (that would be the starport that's always available for the opposition).

LIke if the rebels are winning on Tatooine, and in Tatooine space, then the imperials would only be able to enter Tatooine through Bestine, which makes Bestine a great place to organize ground forces, both for those imperials wishing to set out to take the planet back, or for rebels who want to keep the Empire down.

I do however oppose the idea of player starports. I don't think it's a bad idea really, but I think that it would completely take away from NPC citys, which are already underpopulated on many servers. Having JTL, I only have to travel to the planet of my choice (instantly and for free), and at most I have to wait one minute to get to the city I want. There's still some immersion there, and at the same time it's not really an inconvienience.

All-in-all though, I'm really glad to see posts like this. Keep them coming!!!

/bump and I think with incombination to making npc cities come alive and this expansion...I don't think player starports will be that big of a deal(plus a good way to counter-act player starports is making it so you can only land so many ships per city size)
