Friday Feature October 29th Part 3: Jump to Lightspeed: Printable Keyboard
It's a bit out of date, but should be enough to get you started.
No one can answer that question for you. Some people are more comfortable with the mouse, some with the joystick.
Personally, I cannot fly for crap without a joystick with rudder twist.
I find keyboard/mouse (virtual joystick on the control+O menu) to be the easiest to access the keys I've customized to fit my playstyle. With a joystick, it's just a little harder to do the keyboard thing IMO ![]()
BTW, I'm nearly Ace, and this has worked all the way thru pilot ![]()
On the other hand, some people love the mouse..... (I don't see how, but...)
Try both, see which one you like better.
I would have thought the same -- "That No-one can answer that question for you". At it's base it's correct. You will find a preferrence. When I first began Pilot, I asked my Space Going Guildees which they preferred, and found the same random sampling here.
I have found that I preferred Joystick.
With a Rudder Twist Joystick I can Climb, Roll, and turn, with one hand. As well as Fire All my weapons (Trigger), Target next, Target under Reticle, Cycle through Subsystem components, Boost, And Target Next Enemy Player -- All with the Same Hand,
With the other hand I generally control the throttle. As well as having 6 further Keys available to me.
It took some getting used to. Hmm, I should rather say, it took me HOURS to get used to flying with the Joystick, AFTER having become comfortable with my mouse, however. My flying and targetting have dramaticly improved.
When I was asking people for THEIR preferences, what was in my mind was... What did they like about their setups, what options did their choices give them.
For me, the Joystick has given Flexibility, ie; the ability to do FULL evasive manuevers with one Hand while leaving the other free if needed (Say, for beginning a Hyper sequence.
