Thread: Vette Panic, most fun I've had in JTL for ages

Yesterday I had the most fun I've ever had with a corvette, my heart was pounding at the end of this episode.

I had the day off work so decided to finally finish off inquisition to get my 3rd ace.

I'm up doing the "Kill 30 rebels" last mission before the vette, kessel is dead (it's 9am UK time) and after flying around the system for what seems like ages I finally get a good spawn of ships and get my 30 ship target out of the way, I started to hyper out, tabbing through reds as I did so I don't get jumped or fly into a spawn. As I hit 75% I tab to... "Corellian Corvette"... It's about 10k from the exit point.I think to myself "sod it" and decide I'm going to try for it.

I boost my way into naboo station and land at theed, hop on my bike and head to the palace.. "ding dong" aaaagggh, someone is at the door, I hit autorun and go and see who it is, it's some guy from UPS, "Can I leave this package here your neighbours, they are out" what seems like hours pass as I have to "sign here, initial here, date here, your name here, inside leg, bloodtype, favourite soup etc. etc." I drop the package and rush back to the PC, I've been kicked off my bike automatically and I'm running like an idoit against the wall in theed palace. I get the mission from the admiral, burst run out of the palace, waste another 10 seconds realising I'm trying to get one someone elses swoop bike and launch my Tie-adv into space.

I start to hyper to endor and run droid commands at same time, I look at my display, "m1 - 0", OMFG I forgot my missiles, I land, load missiles and launch again, I'm glad my wife isnt home right now cos I'm swearing and generally acting like a maniac, willing my ship to go faster.

I get to kessel and head to the vette spawn, it's about 5k from the exit point, I head in and agro the fighters, target gun five and hit bomber strike.. "You fumbled your access code yada yada yada" oh for crying out loud.. I ignore the fighters and roll in to gun 5, strafe it to 50% and missile it, hit cap shunt, hit booster (I think) and bring up my components screen instead.. What the!!, why is the stupid B key so close to the V key..grrr.

I manage to get away but get a good swipe from the vette, it's taken my booster out and I have "EJECT" flashing up on my screen, I ignore the fighters bar one little a-wing thats getting on my nerves and start missiling the vette from the safe spot... the vette starts to do it's "balet" in space thing.. the game just does not want me to master today.

Then some good luck for a change, the vette heads into a static spawn of NPC tie fighters and they draw some of the agro, I shoot out it's engine, missile the reactor, which for some reason comes up as "reactor 0%" and doesnt die, so I have to hit it again, then take the bridge, mission complete.

I take out the 1st gunboat about 500m from the exit point and the second blows just as it starts to do it's "spinning at the exit" thing.

I sit back and try and drink my coffee but I'm shaking like a leaf and nearly spill it all over my desk.

Best moment in JTL so far, frustrating but damn good fun at the same time.

I agree but I thought 5k from exit point was cutting it a bit fine to risk strafing it.

went to help someone yesterday afternoon on star ravager when they "knew" vette was about to spawn, I get there I have it up 6k from exit I'm like SWEET I love a challenge(I don't carry ordanance in an Adv X wing on main pilot)somehow in 6k I clear fighter screen, blow both gunboats(ravagers aggro you off the bat) disable and blow ravager and had it sitting 800m from wp for despawn, had very much the same feeling you did it's moments like these that make me glad I'm not a buttong masher

Congratulations, Isamu! Welocme to the Aces.

Yep, the vette is the most fun part of space. I like all of space, but I LOVE vette runs. I get all giddy whena guildee hits 4444, and is ready for the vette run. I just wish it did not take 2 hours to spawn.

When I made Ace, there was a group of 5 or so at the entry point already. They let me in group, and they had an ace with them who know what he was doing. So, basically the rest of us just stayed out of his way until we could get a hit on a primary system. It was kind of a let down really, as I had read up on how to solo the vette, and I was really excited to tryit.

Then, a month or so later, a fellow guildee finally hit 4444, and I went to assist her on her vette run. She has fantastic luck, and we showed up as a group was just finishing off the gunboats. They invited her into group, she hit a primary system, and the rest of the group finished the vette off. Disappointed again.

But, just a week later, another guildee hits 4444. A group of 5 from the guild head to Kessel. It is fairly late, and when we get there, no one else is around. We kill everything we can find while we wait, and the vette finally shows up. I am the most experienced, and I know the routine of which systems to kill, and in which order to do it, so they let me lead. Now, almost two months have passed since I read how to solo the vette, and even though I have killed the Kashyyyk vette several times, there are obvious differences in how you fight each one. We take out the fighters, and I have become pretty efficient at killing gunboats, so I move in on them from behind, and begin shooting them. Of course, I totally forgot about turret 5, and the fact that it hits out to 1K. My front shields and armor are gone in seconds, and before I can get far enough away, I am toast. The rest of my guild dies also. Before we can get out there and fight it again, another group moves in and finishesthe vetteoff. Disappointed again, but this time it is my fault.

So, I go back, review how it is done, and of course realize my turret 5 mistake. A few nights later, we get another group together, and go to Kessel, and wait. Again, there is no one else around, and when the vette spawns, we move in. This time it goes like clockwork. Fighters, turret 5, gunboats. The rest of the guns gave us some trouble, and the guildee who is trying for ace gets blown up. In the meantime, another person trying for ace comes out, and we invite him to group. While I am waiting, I take out the rest of the guns, so we don't lose anyone else. Now it is prayer time. I have the new guy get one hit on the only system left, which is the bridge. That knocks it down to 66%. I am waiting for my guidee to get back out here, and just hoping no one else runs in without checking with us, and finishes the vette off before my friend gets his hit in. In the end, he made it, finished off the bridge, and we have two new aces racing off to Doaba Guerfel. The gunboats were taken out earlier, so there is nothing left to do but bask in the glory. In my mind, that was the night I TRULY became an ace. I love that mission.
