Thread: Hi my name is Swayvill, and I'm a rammer...

Ok so not intentionally, but I tend to ram ships. This is purely PvE against Tier 1 ships and I'm a 1111 pilot.

Not sure if this is common or if I'm making some kind of mistake.

Happens a bunch in the missions where they come at you in waves, most frequently head-on collisions on the initial run and then after I blow them up as I'm too close.

What kind of damage is this doing to my ship? So far no sign of it other than the sound and scrap animation.

Is this a bad habit I need to break as I advance in my piloting career?

Thanks in advance,

Swayvill

No collision damage in space at all.

As for fixing this behavior...I think you will find once you get up there and get some decent guns, the sips coming at you head on will not survive to the point of impact, making it a moot point

If you're worried about it, keymap the Matchspeed button to your joystick, or hit M while chasing.

I had the same problem. Just need to slow it down a bit.

My problem with ramming is that I tend to play chicken with the enemy..but the AI doesn't do anything to avoid collision....so when I pull away at the last second, the AI keeps flying straight and rams ME. I had to turn off Force Feedback on my joystick because it was driving me nuts.

AI gets smarter at higher levels.

I only think it's a bad habit if you don't regularly take down your target on the first pass (which I don't, but there are some situations when it's common). If they're not dying in that first pass, I'd advise starting to swing your ship around sooner so you end up right on their tail where it's easier to shoot them.

Like others have said, though, the collision itself isn't hurting your ship or anything.

Not significantly no. It gets faster, and the shield and armor are tougher, guns bigger, but all the NPC ships do all the same things, tier1-5. It may appear smarter becasue those turns and dodges are happening in a shorter space of time, but you can observe all the same behaviors.

Yes, they are all pretty much the same. You almost have to beg an NPC to try to vape you with a missile. Quest NPCs are where the fun is at though. Nothing like getting chased down by a Tier 5 gunboat or 3.

It was stupid funny. If I could remember which mission it was I'd tell you. It might have been the firstKashyyyk station mission.

The sad thing one of my coworkers used that phrase in a company wide memo.

The memo said All you bases are belong to (insert my company's name). This was because we stole our biggest competitors biggestclient.
