If you're chasing them, then dive and come up under the gunships. Both rebel and Imperial ships have a blind spot under them, although the Imperial spot is somewhat smaller.

If the gunship is chasing you, try fast head to head passes (jousting). The front guns don't seem quite as damaging as those danged turrets. The same rule applies for Agressors, if you're having trouble with them.

I've heard these things have a blind spot, low and behind. Myself personally when I'm solo I call in bomber strike ahead of me, sit just barely in weapons range behind them and aim for weapon0. Your experience may vary but thats how I handle it.
