Working with a team or partner is always the best way to go in space. But, one thiong to try if you are getting overwhelmed is to disable the ships rather than destroy them. (Default key to target components is: [ or ] )This should buy you more time as it is much quicker to disable than destroy.

This sounds like you've taken a Duty mission? The final tier 1 mission is to eliminate the Black Sun ace. You're not expected to keep up on a Duty mission solo yet, this is a grinding opportunity, no more. When you are given the choice of several different types of mission from your trainer, you are in "free time" basically you're expected to grind until you have the experience for training. Either by doing these Duties or by finding a hunting spot and hunkering down.

I am given the task of escort Jabbas freighter somewhere. I am reliving the Kobyashi Maru all over again. I cant keep up with the fighter spawns that swarm the freigther. I have failed the mission 8 times.
Is there something I am missing?
Do I need others to complete this?

The name of the game in this mission is DISABLE the enemy. Don't try to distroy them. If you are solo you can't possibly keep up if you try to blow 'em all up. Stay close to the frieghter and DISABLE.

i agree... disable, disable, disable... that is the key. Dont worry about gettin loot yet, there will be time for that later.

I passed this mission last night.
Now that I think about it, I really can't remember what I did. It wasnt that hard really. Hang just behind the freighter during the escort. Adjust your speed so you are moving the same speed. Monitor your radar, and when you are prompted about the enemy, immediately hit the x key so you can accquire a location on your hud. They travel in 3's, where one is, the other 2 are sure to be.
Stay on their tail, and lead the target. Also, target a specific system on the ship with the [ and ] key (I use reactor), and try to fire as close to the green crosshair as possible. You closer you are to the green crosshair, the easier they are to kill.
Good luck.

I suggest getting better equipment, and upgrading your ship to a dunelizard (if you have that box already). I ended up doing this mission in a dune lizard using some loot I found while doing a duty mission. That makes it a while lot easier.

The only other tip I can add is "don't chase". Stay around the freighter since the ships will fly off and then come back in to hit the ship you're escorting. Disable them as they fly in, and while they are flying off your own shields and capacitorare recharging or being adjusted with droid programs.
If it just doesn't seem to be working, then another pilot or two will usually turn the trick.

He has good advice. The hardest part of an escort mission is remembering to stay with the ship you are escorting. Technically you could complete the mission without blowing anyone up by just keeping the bad guys from shooting the ship you are escorting until it finishes its route. Of course it is easiest to blow them up, just don't get to far away because they will either blow up the ship you are escorting or the pilot will say you are not providing a proper escort and hyperspace to safety which also ends the mission in failure.

I don't get it.. I completed all the tier 1 missions first time and I'm annihilating the duty missions (I'm rebel) all with the original fighter, completely stock. Am I just good? ^^
