Here is an idea:
Make landing pad that is deployed like player own structure where pilot could land there ship.
2 type of pad:
- small (1 lot) for starfighter
- large (2 lots) for MP ship (2 player shipalso)
When MP ship land the player appear inside and use deployble acces door to get out, and back in, they could also be able to launch to spacefrom inside (or travel). Multiplayer ship could be accessible like a house while landed on the landing pad.
There would also be a control panel on the pad, where player can manage there ship, used to launch and travel. (like those in starport)
Optional: landing sequenceand take off sequence visible by gound player.

I don't see it ever happening but sounds good. Always felt cheated by not even having an animation of travel sequences.

The initial concept art for the Player Hospital had what LOOKED like helipad on top.
I made a suggestion in the PvP/PvE base thread that they needed to get Strategic Bases online, put a starship terminal inside it, and allow the owner/administrator of said base to grant landing rights on a case-by-case basis.
Furthermore, the Strategic Bases should only be allowable in Metropolis-level cities and should only be placeable by factioned Master Politicians (hey, gotta have SOME incentive to get it).

Well the first thing people will complain about is that it will take away money from the city because people will not use the shuttle ports anymore.
The way to offset this is to apply a landing fee every time you land in a player city.

i have an idea u land at starport free but to move ure ship like a landing feee u pay the amount to and from the shuttle EG (using rori as an example) u go to space station say u wish to land then u go to sub menu which says whic landing pad it would cost more to land at these pads maybe restrict a landign pad to simerler to a guild building sou cannot plonk it down anywere and make it at a high lvl the fees will be more expensive at a landing pad than shuttle but there is anproblem of storign the ships iff there gonan be visuly landeddunno what u think but irickyhas a very good idea there

Why is it important to limit where you can land? I ask because if we can set up the limits and give good reasons for them then we might be able to get places that _don't_ need to be restricted as landing zones -- either with or without a landing pad.

OK -- Here's a start
No landing in cities (player or otherwise)
-- because you could land inside defenses during a raid.
-- because you could clutter up the landscape making it hard to move around.
No landing on any occupied lot
-- because people "own" their lots and you should not be able to mess with them
No landing within existing "no-build" areas
-- because there may be well thought out reasons for them being no build areas. If you want to open them up, fight the battle with the devs over the original reason, not because you want to land there.
As an aside, I'm for being able to land a ship anywhere it isn't explicitly prohibited without needing a landing pad. An interface like the one for placing a building or harvester could be used. From space you could get a map of the planet. You could zoom the map and then click on a spot. That would transfer you to the building placement interface. It would even be a little chancy because you might not be able to target the location exactly.

Instead of a landing pad wher eyou can land your ship at that given location. I would like it very much if player cities or even individual players could place remote starship terminals.
you cant land or take off from these player terminals but you can manage your ship just like you can from the starport. I cant count the number of times where i am at my house picking out components for my ship and travelling to the starport only to find that my components wont work in my ship or I simply forgot a part... and i have to run all the way home again.
