With a friend, one stays away and the other goes in for a run, targetting the reactor or the engine. Full speed run and continue past. Either going as far away as possible or go to a station to repair. The other person does the run targeting the same part then run away to heal or repair. Just tagteam it like this. When it's lost mobility, stay just outside it's range and fire away.
If you can bring even more people along then the same tactic will work, it'll just go faster.
It might be possible to solo it like that but when I tried that, after my third repair it just vanished (although funnily enough the waypoint kept moving.)

I just sat right on it's tail and blasted away. With one character I did it in one 'sitting', with the other I had to run fast to the spacestation for repairs...as I was leaving one of the firespray had caught up with me so I dispatched it then went back in to finish off the gunboat.
Before I went on this mission though I set up my ship for heavy duty armor in front and sacrificed missles and countermeasures for the best shield I could find. With cap overload I just continuously blasted with all 3 weapons...each max damage over 3000.

In addition to what I said in the other thread, you don't want to dogfight with this thing. There is no real "safe spot" on a gunboat with an AI that won't fly straight like the Kessel/DS variety.
Your best bet is to make certain you do as much damage as possible per pass - that includes multiple weapons, missiles, etc - NEVER approach an mission gunboat head on, ALWAYS approach at an angle so you can extend *away*, light boosters, and fly out of turret range, recuperating if need be, before rinsing and repeating until either the engine or reactor is out (making a note that even if you destroy the reactor, the turrets still fire), then take positions at about 535m and pound the hell out of it.

did you do the mission before or after the ship learned to chase you down like a chew toy? this ain't your daddy's exit mission (see my post in the other thread about this)

I did the mission when gunboats learned to play smart... The tactic I used was weapon overload3, engine overload3 and making passes on the gunboat, shild shunting as needed... I took a few armor hits damage but managed to complete the mission. The key is having a really fast ship with big guns
(I had a Rihrx with borstel + 2 advanced blasters)
