What is your pilot affiliation? ie. Rebel, Imperial, Neutral? When you refer to items are you refering to number of weapons you can mount / what has the most mass or are you refering to the number of items that you can store in a multi-player ship? ie. acts like a house.

Ok, now that we know faction and are looking to outfit it with parts, a few more questions.
Are you looking for a PvE or PvP fighter?
What pilot level are you?
How many credits are you looking to spend on parts?
I'm a rebel pilot and I pretty much customize my fighters to fit specific duties or missions (Y-Wings with ion/disruptor loadouts for capital ship attack, X-Wing with blasters for multi-role). Every ship has its pluses and minuses and simply asking what is the best of so-and-so will garner a multitude of different answers. I prefer my X-Wing over the Y- and A-Wing simply because it suits my flight style. I use crafted and loot parts to outfit everything, so that boils down to personal choice of what type of weapons you want to install.
Personally I feel the X-Wing is the best rebel fighter and my mix of crafted and looted parts is a great load out. Spent some hefty change to get a fast engine andhigh power/high recharge cap, crafted and REd respectivily. My two main weapons are looted (not REd yet since I'm still collecting parts) and my third gun is a reward item.
It's all about personal choice and preference.
