My question is to all those pilots who have mastered at least 1 rebel, 1 neutral and1 imperial squardon

The situation:

I am rebel colonel on the ground. I have aced Havoc squad, Smuggler's Alliance and am 3433 in RSF. My goal is to do all 9 pilot squadrons for the loot, the stories and the fun of it. I also have -5000 imperial faction. I have tried to declare imperial overt in space as an RSF pilot and was told "You are not welcome here rebel scum" by the imp station. I assume this is due to my ground faction and not to my pilot status as RSF, which is Imperial aligned.

The million dollar question:

If I drop to civillian (neutral) on the ground, but stay in RSF, can I then declare imperial overt at an imperialspace station to grind imperial faction pts...ie get outta my -5k hole and to +200 so I can declare imperial combatant so that I can, after acing RSF drop it and do the three imperial squads?

I am hoping the answer to my question is "yes" otherwise my only option will be to buy the FP from a Smuggler. Which brings another question...can a special forces imperial transfer faction to a special forces rebel with the /delegatefaction command, or is this only allowed within same faction?

Anyone who is in the know on this one I would love to hear from you.

Thanks
