This is the mission where:

1st Part: Take out a Decimator and 5 (Tier 4) Tie fighters.

2nd Part: Stay at waypoint and fight 10 (Tier 4) Tie Fighters until your friends can get away.

Notsure if there is a Part 3. Can't get that far.

Any suggestions on how you finished this and what you used? I am using an X Wing.

Bring a friend. Worst case, you can go totally defensive while they target whoever is making runs on you and therefore an easy target.

Make sure you're running these droid commands at the bare minimum.

Reactor overload 3 [get it off a freelancer]

Weapons Overload 3 [get off an imp]

Engine Overload 3 [get it off an imp]

Capacitor overcharge 3 [get it off a freelancer]

Shield shunt 4 [off our friend, the freelancer].

You'll need to supply blank droid command modules in order fo them to program them for you and thats if you havn't got these commands already.

Shield shunt is great, engine ol 3 adds a significant boost to your ion drives and weapon ol 3 is hilariously bugged which gives you more power for less energy which is fantastic for pve lol.

An x-wing...hum.

Get the engine you recieved at the end of tier 3 [the incom military grade engine] reverse engineered and with engine ol 3, you'll find things a lot easier.

Try a mk IV shield because I'm fairly certain a tier 4 TIE or Decimator are hard pressed to even scratch those and they only have about 17k mass.

Try looting a lvl 4/6 capacitor with about 1k energy and 35+ recharge [these are fairly common in Lok to loot]

A crafted mk III reactor was always good before I found me a looted one to re since they have about 7/8k mass and if you are picky with your shipwrights, can have about 14k energy.

As for armour...don't worry too much about it because with a mk IV shield and shield shunt, you're pretty much invincible against t4's.

As for weapons, start collecting lvl 7 looted guns [even though they're few and far between to loot] but if you havn't got them already, try using three lvl 7 crafted blasters or a lvl 7 ion cannon and two lvl 7 blasters [in order to strip those shields quicker].

Alternatively, if you're on Bria, send a tell to Leaph Chausew [yours truly] and I'll be more than happy to help and I hope you fidn that info useful. It isn't info on how to totaly max out your X-wing to undefeatable uberness, but its a good, quickish way on kitting out an x-wing decently for pve in my oppinion.

i did this mission by myself in an awing. all i did was overcharge my engine capcitor and reactor then when my shields took damage i would recharge them with capacitor to shield shunt 3 but most of the time they couldnt hit me cause with the overcharge my engines top speed is like 1346 and i would fly by and hit the decimator with spacebombs then disable the fighters til i could finish them off

If you are not using droid programs, they can help a lot. A quick droid speed and cap to shield shunt cna really buy you more time. Also, try disabling either the engine or reactors of the TIEs instead of destroying them. That is a bit quicker. Don't make the mistake of chasing one TIE until he is dead when 5 more are on your tail ripping your back shields to pieces. If you need to vector off and pick a new target, do so. Try to fly evasively, avoiding any certain pattern. It will make you tougher to hit. Try to find a good shield with the highest recharge you can find.

To avoid possible confusion, the complete tactic is to Disable a TIE and move on to a new target, until the swarm is at a manageable number.

I'm not sure if there are any TIE Aggressors in this mission, but if there are, they are your Prime targets. The quickest way to get them out of your hair is to not panic, target wpn1, get behind them, don't let the turret fire rattle you, and focus on sticking like glue and getting accurate shots in until the turret is down. Use Cap to Shield Shunt to keep you in there longer, and stay focused. The other popular tactic of slowing down and jousting will never ever fork in the middle of a furpile.

If this is for Vortex Squadron, here's a shortcut. For the first part of the mission, let the Decimator waste all the friendly fighters. It's a good idea to move very far away from the enemy for this part. Once you have failed that part, the second part is the Tier 4 fighter waves. I did that in a Y-Wing. All you have to do is change direction every time you're hit and you'll never have to fire a shot. Once you've passed that part the mission is finished and you can take care of the fighters.

You absolutely want to have the following chips in your astromech or flight computer:

Engine Overload 3

Weapon Overload 3

Capacitor Overload 3

Capacitor to Shield Shunt 3 or 4.

You might consider having one of the Rebel shield adjust programs to generate stronger rear shields, but it you run up against an Aggressor that can be a problem.

As has been mentioned, you want a DI with a really LOW number on it, you'll also need good shields. Havea good missle launcher. Get 3 guns on that X-Wing if you can, although to be honest I did it in a Y-Wing for the extra mass so I had two missle launchers and some great armor.

Get the mission, launch from a system that the mission is *not* in, and load up your droid programs. Jump in and start the mission. Disable the TIE's instead of going for the destroy.

How I did it: I lined up for the attack on the Decimator and targeted the engine, using boosters and the shield shunt to get me past after a missle strike/gun pass. Once the Decimator was stuck in place (a single attack pass took out the engine) I took on the fighters, and disabled them down to a manageble level. After that I just targeted the Decimator and took it out.

I know it's not very sporting but when you can't find help you have to find ways to work around it. Plus not having the overloads or uber REd guns didn't exactly help my case, either. If it makes you feel any better those fighters wasted me once the mission was completed.

Not to brag, but I soloed Vortex without uber RE's or overloads (it was my first squad). All those things help, but they aren't a necessity. Neither is intentional failure, mission success is possible with practice and recommending intentional failure shouldn't ever be "good advice" considering all the other options out there.
