I'm at the point now where they are telling me to go pop the vette in Kessel. That's all well and good but it ain't gonna happen 'till I make at least a friend or two. So what the heck do I do until then? I'd been using my duty missions to farm faction and money as well as have fun with my much lower lvl pilot friend..
Is there something like a duty mission were I can fight Imp ships even after I've made pilot 4444? I'm after the faction most of all. I've tried wandering aimlessly around kessel, but duty missions are easier on me and better moneyatm. Plus seems like every time I breeze through kessel there's like 6 gun boats mixed in with the lot and if I could take the gun boats (even at 550m) I'd be searching for the vette and not looking for a new duty mission to run.

you should check the pilot helper list sticky'd at the top of this forum. All of them would be willing to help with the vette.

What server are you on? If it is Bria, I would be willing to help.

Scyllia or how ever it's spelled. At the moment I'm flying a b-22 with some really nice lvl 7 components that I found hard to find in low mass. I love that ship.I shoppedaround and payed out the nose for a few of the partsto. I also have all the droid programs for shield shunt, and the component overcharges loaded into my flight computer. Only thing is that the guns on those larger gun boat style things cut through my 1800/1800 shield like butter...even as I'm strafing through at 1200+. My capacitor is good enough to keep me using shield shunt all night long with plenty enough to power my blasters full on...but as soon as I get in range I'm dead almost before I can say 'emergency shields.' I just have real trouble taking out those larger class ships....especially the ones that turn on a dime and move as fast as some ties that I've seen. There really is no such thing as inertia, huh? Should I shelf my B-22 and get back into my heavy xwing for this mission? I've been in that little b-22 for so long I can't imagine not being able to run down and out turn every T5 NPC ship I see. I even tried running the Kash station duty missions...for money...but eventually a POB ship spawns on me and I just can't stand up to it. I think I'll see if the server that powers the 'search' function is plugged in today...I'll search for anti POB ship tactics...'cause I gotta be missing something.
Anyways, from what I'm hearing the answer to my question is 'no' till I take out the vette?

"Float like a butterfly sting like a bee."
If you take more that 1 or 2 hits in a Bel-22 when fighting a vette you aren't moving enough. (not faster just use evasive flying)
For gunboats, learn the blindspots and stay in them. for rebel gunboat there is a massive blindspot below them. If the gunboat is one of those spinning gunboats of death... joust them and use lots of missiles.

Gunboats that aren't maneuvering shouldn't get a shot in on you, unless you're not careful when you disable them.

Well, my question became moot last night when I soloed the vet. The gunboats tore me up and so did the vet even at 1200 speed. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm getting hammered going and comming on the strafe runs. I spin turn and weave, but I still get hit. I'm constantly using shunt. I used the guide on 'how to solo the vette,' but I screwed it up. I let the gun boats get past me. Everything was going great until I disabled the vettes engines. For some reason I just couldn't get an angle on the reactor without getting toasted by guns. Eventually I just strafed all the guns to death, but it still cost me 5 spawns. By the time I finished him off the gunboats were no where to be seen...I'm sure someone was cursing me.

I've never tried to get the reactor without shooting the guns off first from "below" their line of fire. Once the Vette is a sitting duck, BTW, it's safe enough to go after the gunboats.

Y-Wing Longprobe, 2 Mark 3 Proton Missiles, Target the subsystem, launch, IFF, launch. Disable the engines and you have it made. Just that easy.
