I was reading the Pilot FAQ and notice things seemed to change over time, so I was inquiring about the current status of Squadron Changes.

I am currently Neutral and still not sure what side I will take in the GCW. I would eventually like to however. At this time though being a Master Shipwright, I would really like to test the ships I make. I don't want to master pilot or even go into the bottom boxes if I am going to loose all experience I earned. So I don't know what to do and don't want to not have a chance to experiment with different options so I can make my services to the pilot community better.

Can anybody tell me if you still loose all exp. or if you are given a direct conversion to the faction you choose without loosing skill?

Thank you for your time.

Well, to switch squadrons, you gotta drop pilot, so, yeah, you lose all your XP.

If you resign from being a master pilot instead of just dropping the skills, you get a bonus applied to your XP, which makes regrinding a lot easier. The trick to it is grind one faction (Freelance), resign, grind another (Rebel), resign, grind the final (Imperial), resign. You are then capped on you Master pilot bonus xp. Ever kill will net you 4x the regular xp. So, instead of getting 100 per Tier 1 kill, you get 400.

But to answer your other question, yes, when you resign, your Prestige and Starship Combat xp are set to 0. Or, if you get bugged like I was when I stupidly resigned one under the influence (of an inspiration buff mind you), -450,000 starship combat. Talk about an interesting Novice grind.

There are a few other tricks to help you grind out multiple squadrons, such as preloading a ship and preloading droids. But, those are for another post.
