I used to fly with a mouse, but I bought a joystick because people said it improved the experience. And it did. I started out completely horrid with the joystick, but now I'm better with it than the mouse. Granted, that isn't saying a lot, as I tried the mouse again yesterday and found that my skills have clearly decresed a lot in regards to its use, but I am getting better with the joystick. It just takes practice. And I practice a LOT. I love space.

Mouse. Tried the joystick and couldn't hit a thing. My KB has a wheel on the left side near the tab key and the x key which I use as a throttle. Only part that is hard to do is roll. Have to move my left hand away from the throttle wheel to roll...but I'll take this over the joystick anyday of the week.

I fly with an XBOX S gamepad. I found a site with the Windowsdrivers for the controller and put the USB plug on the controller myself. I've played with the mouse and a joystick before but I find the gamepad the most comfortable (probably since I play a lot of XBOX games anyway).

When I first started, I used A, W, S and D to control the ship and the mouse just to fire. I changed W and S to control the pitch instead of the speed. I was actually pretty good with it, but I later found out about hitting Alt to move the ship with the mouse. It turned out to be easier to use the mouse than the keyboard. I also changed Ctrl to be match speed, so I can keep my hand on both match speed and the throttle (arrow buttons) at the same time.

I use a Saitek Cyborg 2 joystick, and have since JTL launched, so I can't compare to using a mouse. However, when I am manning a turret on my friend's Nova, I prefer to use the mouse.

Being that I am an old online FPS twitcher, I am much, much faster and more accurate with the mouse. Basically mouslook, fire controls, targetting, and countermeasures on mouse (6 buttons), keybinds near left hand (based off old wasd) for macros, roll on Q and E, weapon groups on 1,2,3, etc. Oh, but I macro my throttle settings and do not really "fine-tune" my velocity (generally 100%, 75%, match speed, or Full Stop) so I have no need for a "real" throttle control.

I started to fly with the mouse when I first got JTL because I was too lazy to plug my joystick in.

... that lasted about 5 min.... clouldn't fly the ship at all with the mouse....

I got a Logitech something joystick....dont know the name... All I know is that its got tons of buttons, hat stick and is digital. Only problem is that I would like to use the rudder but for SWG it wont center. I wish there were some ingame options to optimize your Joystick.

I'm really into FPS so I'm also a mouse / keyboard combo pilot at the moment.

Though on a recent mission a guildmate was running rings around me with his joystick and have been tempted to switch.

I have a logitech cordless joystick with about 8 buttons, HAT, twist for the roll and a throttle that I bought specifically for JTL but never used, may have to get it back out of the box.

I use Joystick/Keyboard... Stick to control left/right up/down and firearms (Guns, missles, CM's, etc..) I use the keyboard to control speed and roll (W S Q E).. It's what I got used to cause my Joystick sucks, I tried using a better joystick and I can't do it, I need to have the keyboard/joy combo now
