I am 3/3/3/3 Freelance, JTL has never really rang any of my Bells, but after grinding Jedi for the past 3/4 months id like a change of scenery.
I just bought an Ixiyen Fighter, Mass of 93829, what im not sure of is wether i stick in Lvl 5 or lvl 6 parts, lvl 7 are way to big for my Ships mass, but im having Trouble finding Lvl 6 parts on Chim, BUT i do see lots of Lvl 5 parts.

Thnx for Any help u can throw my way.

The levels on components can be a little confusing. Shipwrights can only craft levels 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 components, whereas loot components can be all levels 1 thorugh 10. When it comes to looted components, generally all the odd numbered ones have terrible stats, espeically engines and boosters. If you have lots of money to spend, and access to lots of loot, then in the long run you'll eventually end up wanting to use all Reverse Engineered loot on your ship, except for your countermeasures, missiles, and possibly your booster and armor. However, assuming you don't have access to all that loot, level 5 crafted stuff is what you'll have to stick to until you get a ship with more mass.

I used a combination of loot I found while leveling and two purchased components. One crafted item was a lvl 6 crafted reactor with 14k energy, the other was a crafted shield with 12k shields. I used a dunelizard till roughly tier 3 to tier 4 then I switched to a Kimogila for the third gun and more mass. I have about 110k mass on my kimogila and I've got a great weapon loadout. Armor is the only area I have had to make sacrifices for my loadout.

My best advice is to pay attention to the stats on the equipment more than the level. Especially when it comes to reactors, shields, armor, and capacitors. If you're using a reactor overload program, and everythign still works with a level1 10k reactor that only weighs 800, then why bother trying to use a big reactor for that extra 3-4k of power?

Looking at equipment based on a Mass/Effect ratio is the guiding principle I use lately. Reverse Engineered parts almost universally win in this category (not always though) Saving Mass in every subsystem should be used for improving firepower and defense. Always have an eye toward better guns and shields.

Moral of the story is, dont just grab it because its level is higher, learn what the numbers mean on the overall scale, and just what the added benefit is.

Do develop a good sense of what is good/useful for all parts. The ability to recognize a GREAT part when it drops is key. You want to keep your great parts.

wait

you DON'T like kitting your ship??? I find this to be a whole lot of fun. I like trying to find lighter and better components, especially engines and reactors so I can in turn beef my shields and weapons up. Granted building your vessel will never be as fun as flying it, but the way SOE programmed the ship building to integrate with the ground game is pretty cool I think

I fly a kimogila with 112k mass. I have all looted, non-REed parts with the exception of the shield and one weapon. After each mission I go to the starship terminal and check and reconfigure my ship based on the loot I collect. My role playing thought process is, "if they can kill me with, I can use it to kill them". Adds a lot to game and it's free. By the way I still fly my Dunelizard. I use it for duty missions.
