Normal usage isn't part of it. Here's the skinny on decay:
1. The condition of your component or chassis will decay 10% for each point you repair, be it at a space station or on the ground with a repair kit. (edit: So if you suffered 100 points of damage, upon repair, you'll lose 10 points of condition to decay)
2. If your damage is less than 10 points, there will be no decay when you repair. The decay calculator doesn't seem to do fractions.
3. Your components and chassis willtake damage whenever your shields and Armor fail and you still get hit. The only ways to avoid decay is to fight in Deep Space as a master OR not get damaged more than 10 points per component/chassis.
Note: Your reward engine that you receive at Tier 3is an extremely nifty piece of hardware. Do not RE it until the condition has decayed significantly.

ok does it keep track of damage from one repair to the next or is that asking too much of sony(which is a good thing)
so if i repair 9 point on one trip to the station. the next time i go would i suffer decay if i repaired another 5 to the same unit?

Thanks for the correction about the armor, man.
Actually, if you repaired a 90/100 condition component, it would repair to 99/99 due to decay.
NP and you are right too lol. corected above

No it is calculated on each repair.
so:1000/1000 you do 10 damage for overload 3 to 990/1000, you repair and you are back to 1000/1000
next time same calculation from 1000/1000
