I talked to the queen, and found the wookie she asked me to. I was starting the escort part and got too far from him and failed it.

I went back to the queen, but she won't talk to me at all. Can i restart this quest?

were you a combatant when you talked to her the second time?

2nd time I talked to her I was on-leave reb, and I got the reward fine.

First time I was combatant and had to fight my way in though.
Toughest part of the quest for me

Did the journal update from escorting the wookiees?

1) No I was on-leave the second time (but I was a combatant the first time, true)

2) The quest disappeared completely from my journal after I got the "you failed" message. It is completely gone.

Yeah, you have to be a combatant to get the quest. I messed it up twice and got the quest again from her.
