I am 1-1-1-1 for my spaceship skills just got transfered to the inquisitor outside the emperor's retreat.

The first mission he asks you to find a ship with cargo and retrieve it.

I find the ship, then I inspected it, tried to dock it denied me. So I blow it up try again.

This time I inspect it, shot out it's engine and try to dock...once again denied.

Now I am trying to shoot out it's engine before inspecting but it keeps blowing up and not just loosing its engine.

Please help!

Are you on the mission where you have to get the flight record of the fighter? As I recall you have to inspect it first, then disable the engines, (not the reactor, it will make the ship stop as well but will not allow docking) and the /dock.

If is that mission, and this is not working it might be buged.

You don't have to dock with it, inspect, disable, and wait.
The takeover is a timed thing, you have an escort to do afterwards

What do I do to prevent the thing from completely blowing up and only blowing off its engine?

I dont even know how I managed to only get its engine off in the first place!

Ok I have now got the ship disabled...its not moving and I've waited like 15 minutes nothing is happening and there is no advancing of the quest going on!

It still won't let me /dock and that is the step that I need to advance according to my quest journal.

As I recall, you have to inspect it first.

Did you stop moving? If you Ctrl-J and read the mission, I am pretty sure it says you need to stop near the shuttle so that the boarding can take place. Just cut your throttle about 15m off its nose and sit there. The boarding should begin shortly later.

also make sure you are actually targeting the engines, from your above post, it didn't look like you were

Also, put your spatial on the quest channel and it will update you on everything you need to do.
