Currently I'm 4/4/4/3 Rebel Pilot (with last tier box filled and just waiting to run mission) and have a Lvl 4 astro droid installed.

I currently haveLevel three Reactor Overcharge, Capacitor Overload, Engine Overload, Weapons Overload, and Capacitor to Shield Shunt burned into disk.

Iwasinformed that on your ownpilot type (Reb, Imp, Priv), you don't have to burn your own commands into droid disk? Is thatcorrect? For the life of me I can't seem to be able to use any of the Shield commands.

NowI'veopen my astro boxwhile flying and none of those commands seem visable?

Any help would be appreciated.

Essentially, you have to load a program into your Flight Computer or Astromech to be able to use the program in space. Programs you know can be loaded without a chip, programs you don't know can be loaded by using a programmed chip (one time use, not recoverable).

Also, this is from Monsofo's FAQs, stickied at the top:

# Q: What About droids and droid commands?
A: You need both a droid interface and a flight-computer/astromech in addition the acual commands or programmed chips. A detailed list of each command and more information can be found in the Comprehensive Droid Routine Breakdown.

1. Droid interface can be looted or crafted by a shipwright

2. Flight-computers/astromech are crafted by Droid Engineers only. Astromechs are for X-wings, Y-wings, and Z-95 only and count to the droid limit!! Flight computers are for all other ships and do NOT count as a droid in datapad. They are certified in the xxxX tree of pilot and separate from the DI certification. REBEL NOTE: You most likely end up running both flight-computers and astomechs, but the Astromech can have other functionality other then being a flight droids, ask you favorite DE for more info. Astromechs, as they count against the droid limit, are tradeable and nameable. Flight computers are NOT able to be traded/named.

3. Each faction has a set of commands they can program or load for free. ANY pilot of ANY level can use ANY program from ANY faction as long as they can squeeze it in the Lvl FC/Astro they are certified for. The programs for the other 2 factions (or ones you can not program yet) can be used by having them programmed into blanks with commands then trade or buy them.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, unless they get burned into the droid disk, I willnot be able to use the Rebel commands?

I ask this follow up question as I'm just a bit confused by your statement..."Programs you know can be loaded without a chip" I'm assuming that each Tier box I complete makes that level "known". So in that regards, how or where can I find a way to use these "known" commands?

Go to your Datapad, find your FC or Droid, and take a look at the radial menu. There is an option to 'Program.' This option brings up an interface to load and unload programs into the FC/Droid. You always have the ability to load commands that you have the skill to 'know.' You will be given the ability to load any command that you have programmed into a chip in your inventory/backpack/etc.

Okay..

1) I'm familiar with opening up the datapad and getting to the program area.

2) I've moved the various "known" commands to the right hand side of the screen that I wanted to be with this droid and then hit the "commit" key.

3)Now when I launch, those commands are not to be found.

4) If the "known" commands do not take droid disk space, do I need to (or can you) load another blank droid disk into the exisitng droid?

Next steps:

  1. Ensure you have a droid interface loaded

  2. Load the droid/flight-computer to your ship (its the last one on the ship managment window)

  3. Once in space bring up the "commands" list and hit the Astromech tab.

  4. Drag to F-keys or whatever you want to be able to "run" them

Next steps:

  1. Ensure you have a droid interface loaded (Yes loaded)
  2. Load the droid/flight-computer to your ship (its the last one on the ship managment window) (Yes loaded, but would I have to unload and then reload for these "known" commands to take effect? Sounds odd that one would have to, but thought I would ask anyways.)
  3. Once in space bring up the "commands" list and hit the Astromech tab. (Yes, however all I've been able to see are the commands burned into the droid disk, none of my "known" commands)
  4. Drag to F-keys or whatever you want to be able to "run" them (Yes, I have all my commands burned into droid disk in that format)

  5. So there must be something else that I'm missing..Sorry for dragging this out.

You might, the droid also has a habit of "unloading" itself when some changes are made, I check mine before almost every trip. Darn droids have a mind of their own

Make sure you have the "known" commands loaded in the ground "program droid interface"
    .

  4. Drag to F-keys or whatever you want to be able to "run" them (Yes, I have all my commands burned into droid disk in that format) Check

I would make sure that the list in the "program droid" box reflects the commands you are looking for. Make a mental note of all that is loaded. Once back in space make sure that all the commands are the same. (or are just missing the non-burned ones but the rest are exaclty whats loaded)
You might (as I have done before) have a different droid/flight-computer loaded then you think in the ship.....

    No problem at all

@Canary:

I think you are misunderstanding how "known" commands are used. Prior to now the process for using commands in space first involved getting unprogrammed droid command chips. Burning the commands you wanted onto them, then loading those into the flight computer. Since the devs wanted people to be able to use their own commands on their flight computers without those droid programming chips, you don't need to have your commands burned onto disks to use them. Instead you have that nifty interface that lists all available commands on the left and the commands that are loaded on the right.

The top area should be your "known" commands. At at the bottom with be any commands you have burned onto droid programming chips. They should have some indication that they are droid chips beside their name.

Another thing to consider is when loading programs the interface will not tell you when it is full. You can load every program you have and when you press commit it will only load the first few programs that fit and will dump the rest. There is a green bar that grows each time you load a program.

After you've commit'd to change bring up your droid interface in your data pad. It will list the programs that are currently loaded. Those are the programs that will appear in your astromech list in space. If you don't see what you want from your data pad it won't be in space.

Unlike traditional skills, Astromech skills do not automatically give you the ability to use these programs in space. You have to pick and choose which ones you want to load into your flight computer/droid and then load that droid/flight computer into your ship.

Tumbler,

Okay...so basicallymy Lvl 4 droidhas a capacity of 110 data space (?) or so. That would mean that since I have 5 Lvl 3 droid commands already burned into the disk (at 20 data size each),I don't have enough space left to add any additional Rebel Shield commands that take up more than 10 data spaces? If I'm understanding you correctly.

If that's the case, then that would make sense on whyI've been pulling my hair outand that it will be time to upgrade to Lvl 5 droid (125 data space) when I complete my last Tier 4 box, which is the droid command box.

There is another option in the Datapad to look at the Droid/FC's 'Storage Module' or something similar. If you pop that open you should get a box showing each loaded program, how much space each is taking, and what your used vs total space is for that Droid/FC. If it is full then you'll need to decide which commands are truly worth having installed.
