Thread: Too Much Control?

I have been flying my Krayt a LOT lately. I have 2433 shields front and back, armor, a good capacitor, all my weapons are hitting for over 4K dmg per second and shields and armor (not the shown damage on weapon stats, this has been calculated out) and an engine with aboutY=69 P=69 R=71 (maybe a bit higher... cant remember) and speed somewhere in the mid to high 80's.

I got an Imp to program Engine Overload 3and started using it a few days ago. Oh man the difference is insane! Once I engage an aggressor I am so tight on his tail that his ship litterally fills my screen and with every turn, dive, and climb he takes he never comes out of my crosshairs. I am so close to the aggressor that it can not shoot me with the turret.

Its hard to do though, that is for sure. I use a joystick with a throttle lever and I have to work that throtle like crazy to get the speed and control I need. If I put it at the middle range (sweet spot for YPR) I turn too much and keep over shooting my trajectory, if I put the speed all the way up I get control, but fly past my target. I have found that quickly throttling up and down as fast as is comfortable for my fingers without cramping in a small range gives memuch better control.I am changing around depending on what ship I am chasing.Low range (jumping from no throttle to mid throttle) to mid range (little bit below middle to a little bit above middle) to high range (mid throttle to full throttle).

It has takken me a few days to learn to use this much YPR control but I am just learning to get good with it. A few more days grinding on aggressors and I will just be rocking thier world constantly.

Does anyone else with high YPR think that engine overload 3 is almost too much? Cant even imagine what lvl 4 would be like.

It's not the YPR it's just that joysticks tend to behave like that with this game. That's why I use my trackball even though I have a several hundred dollar joystick setup that I use for my flight sims. My engine runs at around 95 top speed with YPR in the low 80's, and I can follow an A wing around like I got a dog on a leash using my trackball. I can't even come close to that with my joystick, the physics just aren't realistic.

If your after the immersion factor then stick with the joystick and watch out for carpal tunnel syndrome on that throttle finger, but if you truly want ultimate control a mouse or trackball is much better in my opinion.

try adjusting your joystick sensitivity and deadzone settings, you can stiffen the response a little so you dont overcompensate all the time and jerk back and forth.

Geez Coldaus, where'd you get that engine? I haen't been able to find any for sale on our server.

The one I am using in my X-Wing now is 90 speed and 50/50/50 YPR

I started using engine overload 3 last night because of your advice...wow! I had always thought that Rebels couldn't use Imperial programs.

Maybe you should try engine overload 2? Not quite as much speed and PYR increase as 3. Or maybe find an engine with the same top speed and slightly lower PYR. I had a 99.9 speed engine PYR 79/80/78 (IT was an REd Lev 10), and with EO3 it just performed way better than I could keep up with it on the controls. I actually did better using my slightly slower 96 speed 66/68/67 PYR engine and EO3. Keep trying different combos until you get one that suits your style.

freelancers get a tier 4 reward engine, 88.5 speed, REs to 92.9

This along with force feedback settings made me a whole new pilot on EO3 and EO4

Droid327 is right on, if you are using a joystick mess around with the settings

This was a loot engine I got about two weeks ago. My reward engine has been in storage since then. I also have looted 2 moreengines besides the one I have installed with higher PYR and speed, but the mass is too much. One of em is in my YT-1300.
