Thread: Idea: Dogfight League

So I'm working on a new character who's sole purpose in life is piloting, and I'm finding that I'm having more fun as a tier 1 pilot than I am as a master. I wonder to myself, "Why's this?" And it hits me like a Mark II Image Rec up the tail pipe: there's more skill involved. Now before you all start screaming "blasphemy!", let me explain my reasoning.

As a tier 1 pilot in a Light Duty TIE Fighter with basic Prototype equipment fighting tier 1 and tier 2 Commerce Raiders, I find myself pulling all sorts of different maneuvers, maneuvers I would never think of doing as a master pilot. For one thing, the slower speeds require more dodging and weaving, rather than your normal Circle of Death. As well, the underpowered weapons require multiple hits, prolonging engagements.

So this got me thinking; how can this be replicated in PvP? Don't get me wrong, PvP as we have it is plenty fun, but the dependance on going as fast as possible and killing your enemy in one shot sort of takes away from the fun. Here's my idea:

1) A league (henceforth known as "The League") of pilots, dedicated to the ideal of a space combat reliant on the individual skills of the pilots and the firmness of their resolve.

2) The League would be founded upon the following guidelines:
a) All variants of starfighter shall be permitted.
b) Any level of deflector shield and armor shall be permitted.
c) Weaponry shall be restricted to level 3 guns at the highest, and mark 1 proton and cuncussion missiles.
d) Countermeasures shall be restricted to basic chaff.
e) Engines shall be restricted to level 5 at the highest.
f) Droid programs shall not be permitted, excluding shield related programs (this includes all Rebel shield programs, and the neutral Shield Shunt program).
g) All other equipment shall be permitted.

So that's my idea in a nut shell. This would be organized into battles, similar to what's done on Starsider, but any server could initiate such a league. There are my thoughts...flame on!

I'd play it. I've even got a rebel pilot on Ahazi if you ever string this together.

Are you a pilot and not using Droid Commands?

I can see most of that working, however, you restrict rebels and freelance from using their own legitimate programs, but allow imps to use all the overloads on thiers. I can see your reasoning, but restricting people using programs might be a bad idea. Yes people will spam SS3/4 to try and ave their hide, but if you're good enough, you should be able to bypass that, and knock them out. Afterall, most people fly with a DI of around 13 at the moment. So if you can tail the guy, in a nice slow engine, then you should be able to take his shields. It just seems to knock of ground pvp but having Jedi vs others and saying that the jedi can use all his skills, but the CM can throw poisons, and the BH can't use eyeshot etc. They all earned the right to use the skills, let them use them to thebest of thier ability. Otherwise the Imps will get the serious advantage,as they get to use wepon overload programs. Other than this, I like it, and will suggest this to my pvP pals on Chimaera. We have a DS fightclub there, where we try to get groups up to engage halfway in DS (to stop people agroing the ISD/Reb Base) Everyone knows where to fight, and it's a good rally point too. I'll keep you posted as to how this idea does on our side of the pond

Woops, thanks for pointing that out. It seems my mind was thinking one thing, and my hands typed another. I've fixed the post; what I meant to say was that *only* rebel shield programs and the neutral shield shunt would be permitted, all others would be banned.

that's a interesting idea.. but how would you police what's being used? this would all have to be doneon the honor system. for the most part I think pilots are pretty respectable and would obey the rules for the sake of the tournament. but there will always be people who want to "win" no matter what. you get a couple azzhat jedi's who want to fly in it to "pwn" someone and they might pull whatever they can.

this isn't a bad idea, and if implemented i might make a low level pilot on ahazi to fly in this.

howevere I feel that everything should be allowed that way don't have to worry about any rules being broken then know one can cry "but I think he's running eo3 and wo3"

on a side note a guildie and I are considering getting a ladder system going on bloodfin for flying. still trying to work the details out, but think it will be fun.
