I'm getting my butt handed to me on this mission. I'm going the corsec route, and the trainer on Lok keeps handing me this mission that, after a long lead in, brings me to 4 tier 4 black sun fighters. (2 mauraders, 2 aggressors and a Gunboat that just devastates my shields in 1 or 2 hits.)
I'm 2/3/3/2 And flying a Dunelizard with all tier 5-6 equipment.
Can this mission be solo'd or should I be looking for a wingman to help?

All missions *can* be soloed. But if you're having trouble, wingmen are helpful. What droid commands are you running? If you don't have Cap to Shield Shunt, you may want to get it.

If you have the L6 reward engine (I don't remember exactly when in Tier 3 it comes), use it. If you do it right, you shouldn't have to take fire from everything at once. Feel free to list your current components, maybe we can tell you weak points.

I'm running Shunt to Shield III.
I'm running a reactor with 10k mass and 13k overall.
Mark III Starfighter Engine with a top speed of 85.x And it's reduced to 814 in my dunelizard.
Both weaponshit in the 1200-1600 range. Anything above that seems to dramatically increase MASS quite a bit.
I've got a small booster in there.
My shields are around 1k front/back, in fact I just replaced then with a 970 front and 1k back because the component has a higher recharge rate of 9.33 over my old ones that had 8.54
My capacitor is a qualdex Miser, 862. cap on energy with a 39.2 recharge rate. I've got one that has a higher recharge rate but it's mass is like 28k and it's level 9. so i'm not cert'd for it anyway right now.
I realize none of my stuff here is the best, in fact it's all just looted components. As far as I know I haven't received a new engine.
The Kimo would give me 3 guns and bit more mass, but it's sooo SLOW in the turns. It just seems like a sitting duck.
My biggest issue with the missions is that the y just keep sending stuff at me, there's no time to recoup, before one wave is down another wave is up. I had to have help with my last 2 tier 3 missions.
Maybe I just suck at JTL, I've never had a problem with the flight sims i've played before, and honestly, JTL seems extremely dumbed down compared to what I'm used to, but I don't know what the deal is. If everyone here can solo these missions no problem, i'm perturbed that I can't.
Though I feel a little better after tonight as there was an imperial who sent me a tell, he's on his second tier 3 mission, and gets wasted while asking for my help to finish his. (then I get wasted a minute after that on my OWN mission.)
It's not boding well for me if I can't even do these solo. As I'm sure the Tier 4's are going to be even more difficult. Though the ship choices open up quite a bit in that first box. (shrug)
My rebel friends seem to have 0 problems in their x-wings. They out maneuver me and have more mass to play with.
(Please Note: I'm now 2/3/3/3, All but the 1st tier three i've needed help with, and I just got toasted trying to fly the last tier 3 tonight, it's in endor space and involves killing the pirate captain who started the whole mess with corsec/lok space to begin with.)

First off, you can find a level 2 reactor with 13k regen and save some mass, and a level 2 cap with a 30ish regen easily. Keep a small booster, use it for small manuevers. That'll save you some mass.
One quick way to improve your play is a high HP shield, the most you can find. You already said you're running cap to shield shunt, so shield regen isn't very important for you. What you need is the ability to absorb some abuse.
What other programs are you running?Reactor Overload, Weapon Overload, Cap overcharge, and Engine Overload are all pretty standard - you can find Engine and Weapon overloads from Imperial pilots. That'll up your performance as well.
Other tips - try the usual disabling of opponents instead of destroying them, that'll buy you some time.
And the old fallback, get someone to fly with you.

Given your speed, it seems you're not using Engine Overload, so you're probably not using Weapon Overload ... buy chips with them and use them. I currently have a crafted reactor of maybe 3k mass that equals your looted 10k mass reactor for output. You mentioned you couldn't fit better weapons in, maybe now you can. Faster kills (or better, disables) should make life easier.

Yeah it's just difficult to find the crafted components, as our crafter has been on vacation for the last week or so, and before that he's been doing the Jedi grind..... Along with EVERYONE else, so most of the vendors I've run across always seem to be empty these days. Hard to find anyone who still crafts this stuff on a regular basis. Next time I fly, after I do some more shopping, i'm going to try the overloads, thanks for all the advice, I do appreciate it tremendously.

To find a crafted part, just use the vendor location function on the bazaar, and look for specific types of engines (in this case a Mark II). You can compare stats there, then go to the vendor and buy it.

This mission is soloable just takes some good tactics, provided by some friendly forum dwellers. Completed in my dunelizard about a month ago with similar components.
The method suggested and that worked was to do strafing runs on the gunboat, targetting its reactor. Fly in from behind the gunboat at full speed, blasting away as you pass. Continue on by until out of range and then repeat. I used shield shunt while flying away as needed. Hit him with some missiles if you got them. Once the reactor is down, finish off the mission at your leisure. Worked like a charm after failing a few times without coming in with a plan.
Good luck.

Same tactic, but I would suggest targeting the engine rather than the reactor - stop it dead in it's tracks, then go in to kill it in the blind spot underneath.
