If you are a ground neutral, can you be an overt Imperial or Rebel in space and collect faction points?
I ask because I am -5000 Imp faction and want to get that up to 200 so I can become Imp and get a JSF. I will probably just end up paying a Smuggler, but that will be a lot of coin...
I know the answer is probably available on search, but search appears to be down...

It wouldn't take long to test this, just fly and declare. If it doesn't work, I know a smuggler or two to help with FP if you choose.

From the Pilot FAQ in the stickies (no search needed):
"Q: What’s up with factions in space?
A: Ground and space factions are linked as follows:
* Ground Civilians can ONLY be privateer pilots
* Ground Imperials can be an Imperial or privateer pilot
* Ground Rebels can be a Rebel or any privateer pilot"

Thanks, I saw that, but my question is about going overt and gaining faction points. That FAQ answer only addresses the Pilot profession available to the faction.
And it is not quite right, a ground neutral can be 1/1/1/1 imp or alliance pilot. I know because I did not join the rebellion until I hit 1/1/1/1.
