Thread: Posted in SW, but here it is here....
(otherwise known as Pilot's best second career)
Ok, so I see lots of threads about the loss of shipwrights on the servers, and how we get no love, and blah, blah, blah....
I must share, for I have a different perspective.
On flurry, I have a Master TKA, Master Doc, Smugglers Aliance ACE...Love that big wookie...anyway, I found it very hard to get parts RE'd because as you all know, THERE ARE NEVER ANY SHIPWRIGHTS ON! I had 2 other characters (on 2 other servers, I don't believe in buying multiple copies of the game) and of all the professions I have tried, I never tried a crafting proffesion.
I know, stupid me...but hey...
So when SOE gave everyone with JTL for a specific time (3 months?) 75k per character per server, I thought, WHY NOT!? I will start a Shipwright on a new server....75K is a good start for seed money, I can make that grow....
How little did I know.
Well I am happy to say that I am currently 3, 3, 3, 4 Shipwright with approximately 10mill in credits (thanks only to the veteran rewards I sold) and I am ready to finish off, as soon as a new spawn of steel happens. Using JTL for a source of cash, I am sitting at 4,4,4,4 RSF - because I can't seem to solo the exit mission - and I can generate about 200K-300k in credits selling loot from one run in space. I use that to buy resorces I need to grind up one box so I can RE the parts I kept, as they are really good stats (Level 1 reactor with 13.5k generation...looted!) and keep me in awsomeness all day. I have one vendor for storage and xp in merchant, but here is the wierd part...
I DO NOT PLAN ON SELLING COMPONANTS OR CHASSIS TO PEOPLE.
I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF SALES
That's right, I became a Shipwright just so I can RE my own stuff and play with the JTL ships all I want...I make more money as a pilot than as a Shipwright, and I don't feel the need to spend 20hrs a week keeping a vendor stocked, spamming at a starport in the hopes of selling something.
I will make something for someone if they ask, but I don't wear a tag, so no one does. After I make master SW, I will wear the badge with pride, but I still will not make things for sale on a vendor. I will probably just master merchant and delete my vendors. I will RE for free any parts anyone brings to me, and if they want something specific, then I will work with them one on one to get it right. I have several chassis that I created while grinding, not the max mass but close, that I am seriously thinking of putting on the bazaar for 6k each. Just to get rid of them. I know someone will swoop down and buy them all just to put them on their vendor, but I hope that some Noob out there will be looking at the right time and get one for a low price, thus keeping them in the game a little longer.

Thats what im wondering.
And, does it take an essay to basically say the same thing that ive stated in my signiture in one sentence?
So Yes having SW is most certainly nice in being able outfit your own ships however you want. But personnaly, im a pilot. I could care less about the shipwright profession. The only thing i have to say about them after becoming a master SW myself, im AMAZED (more like disgusted) at the kind of profit they were pulling before the chassis market became saturated. Assuming you bought your resources for 2 cpu, a Teir 1 ship costs 30K credits to make, they were charging 75K. A master ship costs 300K to make, they used to charge 750K to 1 million for them.

Because the majority went at it backwards, their bigger chasis' were full of empty space.

2 cpu?
WHERE!?
I regularly buy my resources for 4 and 5cpu, and I build chassis (only by order) for 8 cpu.
Mind you, I hit 75% on Mass Allowance minimum or the price starts to drop....
Selling my 3cpu resource grind-quality ships at 1.5cpu to recoup the investment. There were no resources on Ahazi cheaper at the time, and they're still impossible to find.
1.5 mill (10cpu) for an excellent master level chassis is NOT overcharging. It's highway robbery... on the customer's part.
The other day I wanted some Able steel, the guy who had it insisted 10cpu, no cheaper. I flat out refused to pay that (and still can't find anymore). I guess he forgot my name, because the next day he came asking me for a chassis for 450k... and it had to "be at least better than the listed stat" for mass allowance. LOL! 450k is 3cpu... what does he think, I can just make 70k Able drop out of my hat...?
You got it. That's why I am 3,3,3,4...I grind a box when I need to RE some great piece of loot. I BUY my chassis because they can get better mass than I can, but I use all RE loot, because it has better stats than crafted.
Just one more point I wanted to make...hehe
