Hey all,
I've just purchased a Y-Wing (standard, NOT the Longprobe), and I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion as to how far I should go with upgrades. Is the general rule of thumb to buy as many components as you can affordfor each ship you own? Or should I keep upgrades to a minimum on this ship, and save for a better one (such as the Y-Wing Longprobe, for instance)?
Thanks in advance.

I like to solo my story missions (test of mettle sort of thing). My rule of thumb is to equip my ship to help my skills in defeating the mission at hand, this includes the droid/F.C. and the programs I run.

You will definately want a better ship, and the longprobe is a nice bird. As a tip, if you search on the global bazaar under Misc you can find used deeds that are a lot cheaper than the original chassis. Save the pristine chassis for when you get master.
As far as components go, most of the time you can make it on what you loot. Shipwright stuff is nice, but if you're tight on money don't feel like you need to go nuts on premium gear. Remember too that anything you get for your current ship can be stripped and put on your next ship.

I would say buy the best parts you can find and afford for each ship. good parts will still be usable when you upgrade chassis. (Don't for get that you can probably find a good easy spawn to farm loot. I did this and it gives you lots of target practice and money to buy parts.)

When I grinded, I usually did the mission with the equipment I had, if it worked, great, but if did'nt I went out and bought new stuff. It worked pretty good. If you're doing XP, just find a setup that you can fly for a longer period of time.

If you are able to afford one, get a Heavy Z95. It will easily take you to 3-2-2-2 or 4-3-3-3. They cost around $400k though. At the lower levels, crafted guns, shields and engines are much nicer than the looted parts of the same level if you buy the parts from a SW who uses only HQ resources. You can defintely get by w/ looted droid interfaces, boosters, capacitors, reactors and armor. I'm a master and I still use level 1 reactors (one with 12k energy and the other with 11.5k energy).
