Thread: Pilot Helper List Question
Message Edited by faarsider on 06-27-2005 09:42 AM
That's why I've never listed myself on a helper thread - most people don't seem to want help, they want their hands held.
My favorites are the ones who come to you black barred (lots of wounds) and ask nicely - you know they've tried themselves, even though they failed. They're also usually interested in learning about flying and take advice, instead of talking to me in leet speak.
I'm also almost to the point of refusing to help people until they try droid programs first...considering the difference a good flight computer makes, most people wouldn't need help if they didn't ignore that fourth tree.
Must agree with Attaca
I get tells for help almost every weekend I am on and usually I start by asking what I consider the normal questions. Do they use droid programs? if no, then explain how to do it and have them try again, I generally don't hear from that person again, so I assume they must have worked out ok. Sometimes the person has used droid programs and still cant do it, thats cool, I will fly thier mission with them...Missions are more fun with two people, and sometimes having a wingman to peel bandits off your butt is a good thing.
What I hate is people that you can tell haven't tried the mission. I had one guy ask me for help putting together his Xwing. no problem, I helped him outfit it. He next asks me to assist him in a tier 3 mission. I told him I would not unless he tried first. He tried to coax me, I still said no. He went and died at it once, then sent me a whiny tell of "I told you it was too hard and I needed help, now my Xwing has decayed because of you" I told him he definately wasn't getting any help from me after that remark to which he promptly apologized and I helped him thru it. Then he wants me to do his next mission for him, I say no, he starts cursing me out and complaining about how he isn't good enough to do it and I should help him since we are both rebels etc etc. I told him he had to learn to be a better pilot on his own, having me obliterate his missions wasn't gonna make him a capable pilot. Told him to practice on tier 4 spawns in Dathomir space
I told him later that I would help him do his tier 4 exit quests after he had tried each and every one of them first, and if he did not ask for assistance thru tier 3. Next time I even heard from the guy he had soloed everything up to the vette and had even attempted that. He told me he had worked hard at it and soloed tier 4, even tho he glassed 2 chassis in the process. I now fly patrols with him regularly in Deepspace and I consider him to be almost as good a pilot as myself (had to throw in the ego boost!)
Sometimes helping someone means forcing them to help themselves
