Up to now I did not have too many troubles finishing the pilot quests required to gain new boxes. Im now 3332 Pilot and totally stuck with the quest after which I'll get the last tier 3 box trained. I get it from the guy at Dathomir Sience Outpost (Crimson Phoenix) and I am supposed to fight some Imp Ace who is on his way to get a medal from the emperor. This guy and his escorts are no problem at all (he is tier 4 and i need a while taking him down but his escorts dont scratch my armor while I take him out). After that I have to fly through two waypoints (to gather data) and get attacked by another wave of tier 3 ties at the second wp). No problem so far. But then I have to deliver it to some smuggler. On my way to the smuggler wp I get attacked by waves of ties. The first few waves are no problem, but at some point of time they just overwhelm me (I usually get to the wp where the smuggler spawns). Now some of those are tier 4 tie-agressors which do take my shields down really fast (and im not sure weather Im always unlucky and they just spawn close to my mission wps).Although Im taking the tier 3 ones out pretty fast (noteven using missiles, saving them for the tier 4 ones) There seem to be like 9 or ten at some point of time.Im not really an Ace-Pilot but think Im not too bad either. I have done the mission several times and every time was beaten while delivering the info to that smuggler. Does anybody have any hint on how I can beat that mission? Yes I read the pilot faqs, do all the twisting and turning and rolling and I also use droid commands, even non-reb ones and I have done the mission several times.Im flying an X-Wing with 1.3k shields (almost no armor though), a 79 speed engine, a 1.1k weapon capacitor with a recharge rate of 41 or so and a 1300-2800 advanced blaster (or what its called) supported by a 1k dam secondary blaster. Im Also using 6k max dam Mark III proton torpedos. I think my equipment is not the problem - am I wrong?

Now I tried to explain what I use and what I do as good as possible - does anyone see what I am doing wrong? Or am I just not a good enough pilot yet and continue the mission over and over until Im good enough? I would think this would be strange though as that would mean that this mission is far more difficult than any of the other tier 3 missions. And Id pretty much like to solo that mission too - or are some missions not supposed to be soloable?

I can't be sure, since I've not faced that mission yet, but you might want to try disabling the TIEs instead of destroying them. I think that should keep them from spawing quite as fast. Emergency Shields might be good, too. You probably wouldn't be able to shoot your weapons, but it gives you more shielding to make a run for it.

The missions are soloable, but it's easier with a group. Also, are you disabling one of the TIEs per wave? Another way around all this is hyper out (remaining in-sector) and just let them sit there. As for Aggressors, they're nasty in a turning battle, their rear turret hardly ever misses, try jousting them instead. I'll just run in on them, pound on their front shields/armour, and boost clear ... they tend not to turn too quickly (and why should they with the turret?), so you can set up to do it again.

Hi,i just finished them missions yesterday using an X solo.i had mine setup slightly different from your's.i used the 3 weapon slots up and left the missiles at home.

A lot of the Tie's have no shields so i stuck a heavy disruptor on to make inroads in there armour as fast as possible, coupled with and adv ion and adv blasters it makes very short work of them.the ion will give u a big punch for the stuff which has shields on it.droid programs running where weapon's overload, cap overload and cap to shield shunt.

If i remember right the guy you meet up with is in a yt 1300.if your trying it solo dock with him when there are still 2-3 ties around.the yt's weapons are pretty good at making them keep there distance.though its hard to beat when you have someone riding shotgun for you.

I have allready mastered on imp pilot so there is a bit more experience helping me.hope it helps.

Thank you all for your helpful input. I just did the mission again (first time after my post) and finished it sucessfully - with a bit of luck I admit. The hint about disabling the opponents helped - I used to do that all the time in other missions, but I am not sure weather I forgot about doing this while running this one (*doh*) or if it just didnt help me much before - it helped a lot this time

I would not have survived this mission without using the in-sector hyperspace-jump trick though. I had random spawns of Tier 4 Tie-Opressors attack me at various places (twice - those Imperial Scouts who are with them seem to have a huge sensor range). On my way to the scout then I only had to fight 3 waves of ties (disabling all of them) and when the scout spawned I was able to /dock immediately. Yesterday I tried docking with about 4 or 5 ties around and he would refuse. The last part of the mission, killing the Tie-Agressor and a bunch of Ties was a piece of cake.

I had changed my setup to use 2 Advanced Blasters - so it only took me 3 well placed shots to take out a Tie Fighter. I never use the emergency shields command though, but then I got the "shunt engergy from capacitors to shields" neutral droid command (which rocks )

Its amazing how a little work on ones tactics can turn a tough battle into a walk in the park. Thank you all
