take the mission, target the ship you are supposed to escort and type /waypoint

continue with your normal escort procedures (kill the people spawning etc etc).

keep the mission target on /follow and you should get mission successful after you are 10km away from the waypoint which you created in the beginning.

I thought i was being bugged also, but if you just wait it out, it will complete.

(btw,mymission = 2 SEPARATE ESCORTS TRAVELING 10KM EACH /snore)
