Thread: Un-Uber ships that you fly anyway

I've seen them scattered around the board, stories about people who fly the ships most others don't touch and do well. Its Friday so I was hoping I could trick some of these people to post here about kicking butt in a more modest ship. Tell us about the ship you fly (and by fly I don't mean you flew it once as a joke.)

I will be glad to start...I fly the B-wing. I am the only one of my friends who does so, and I don't recall seeing anyone else flying one ever (except NPC's in Kessel). I seem to do pretty well in PvE and have helped numerous friends complete their missions with this ship, and I don't even have it all tricked out yet (still need a much lighter reactor, shields better than 1800, and better weapons).

This ship is hard to fly at first, but I seem to get better at it each day. I have been flying it for almost two weeks now, while my other ships collect dust. I find I have to think MUCH more about how I fly, and Ihave learned a TON about tactics since I started. I don't PvP in this until I get the better parts, but then, I will certainly try. If a Nova Courier can kill JSF's, I believe there is hope for the B-wing also. =)

I've flown a B-Wing too. Used to use it for PvE until I got the Advanced X-Wing and got into the PvP thing with the A-Wing.

Actually, the A-Wing can be considered a PvP oddball these days, with everyone flying the B-22 and JSF anymore.

I've considered making a Y-Wing Longprobe again, just to have a go with it and see what I can do.

I may have a good story on sunday. We are having a mass PvP battle and I will be flying a normal TIE Intercepter. then again I might get vaped.... alot.

I used to fly a TIE Bomber regularly. However, I got tired of being outrun by the rocks I was trying to mine from, so I switched to something lighter.

I'm a big fan of the TIE aggressor, although I havent flown it for a while. The rear facing turret is difficult to control, but in theory this ship would be nearly impossible to sneak up on. The only problem is that in my experience I've had to decide between shooting a target myself, or flying in a strait line so that the gunner can hit the target, which is an invitation to get blown up.

Anyhow, I hope to convince a perfectly good pilot to really practice me (instead of just using it to level up noob guildies). Until then I'm sticking with the TIE Oppressor- far from "un-uber" but at least its not a JSF!

Eapers,

Have you seen the thread on using the ARC-170 effectively? You probably have, but it seems like employing the tactics laid out there would transfer nicely to the Agressor since they both have rear facing turrets. If you have tried these, I would like to hear what results you had. I am looking fora reason to get a crew together for my ARC-170, but have not foundone yet.

Heavy 95...with all crafted parts apart from capacitor, reactor and D.I.

Managed to bag a few JSF pilots in DS.

The '95 was set up from a pvp event we had on Bria where I said only heavy starter ships could be used starfighter wise with limits on all components so you didn't get one pilot flying around outruning everything..plus there was no room for arguement on RG TIES/JSF etc...was fun. Crafted engines are quite humbling after having been using a re'd QID for quite some time.

At the end of the tourn, I went back and dueled 2 Heavy ties and 1 standard squint at the same timewith the '95...and somehow won. Don't know 'how good' that makes me, but I was happy. I must say though that the last one to kill...the Heavy TIE piloted by Sol'Skjaer took an eternity to finish. He flies very creatively and made me bump into Yavin's 2nd Imp station at one point .

Other than that, I've seen success pvp'ing in a standard Y-wing in Kessel with a gunner on occassion and back when I first started...my standard x-wing was always my favourite until Rapax showed me just how much I really did suck at the time .

Talking about ships with gunners...there was the time when I hastily set up an ARC-170 and due to it's collossal size was too busy dodging a TIE Advanced player's shots to fire back so one of my gunners managed to keep them busy enough until I could emergency hyper macro away...so erm...1:0 to the TIE Advanced guy on that one...I'm just glad I got away more or less intact.

Ever since I stopped using the x-wing for pvp as much [like..8months ago]...I've been working on my A-wing and it's progressed from a state of being really quite apalling...to being well...the stats are posted here and I'm happy.

Oh...there was that time I took up a Y-8 with a friend running droid commands to DS which I named 'TheWHY8Starfighter'

Tried taking on a JSF who I bumped into while trying to fly it like a normal fighter using the forward mounted cannon only....was funny. I got wasted in about as much time as it takes to say "wow, this was a really bad idea...funny, but lame none the less"

It is then when I decided I needed a week break from the game...

KCcrusher:
I just re-read the guide, and it makes some good points. A great idea is using the rebel shield command to beef up the back. I might try turning the agressor into just a big tank with a big tail gun, no gun in front and see how it works out in PvP to just run the hell away from other players while your gunner tries to land a solid hit.

One thing I dont understand about the ARC is where the turrets are positoned, and what kind of turrets they are. Are they both on top? is one a top and the other a bottom? are they on the sides? do they have a 360 or 180 radius?

I fly my TIE interceptor (not the RG one) and my TIE bomber. I put an awesome mark 5 engine in the bomber and can hit 1409 unboosted, 1650 with booster. I put a nice mark 4 in my interceptor and hit 1335 speed unboosted. Lot of fun flying these two ships. I don't even keep my JSF ready to fly anymore. It just sits in deed form in one of my storage droids.

Eapers,

There are 3 guns on the ARC-170. One is in front and is pilot controlled. Then there are two turrets in back, one on top, and one on the bottom. They pretty much have a 180 degree radius. One great idea I thought was using it as a gunboat killer by sidling into the blind spot and rotating 90 degrees, so both gunners can target the GB.
