This is the mission to Assassinate the Imperial Ace. There may be more parts to the mission; I could not get past the first part.

The time limit for doing this partseems quite short. There was a tier 5 Tie Oppressor, and several tier 4 escorts (Tie Advanced, as I recall). Getting on the Oppressor's tail was easily done, and I was wearing it down. However, at the same time, the escorts were wearing my shields down. When my rear shield got very low, I IFF Scrambled, and boosted out to give my shields time to regen, but all the Tie's left before I could get back into the action. I did not have nearly enough time.

Is there a special technique to doing this other than the straightforward way of finding a way to kill all the Tie's as quickly as possible (is it just the Oppressor that I have to kill?).

If the straight forward way is how it has to be done, it looks like I will need at least Engine Overload and Weapon Overload chips; perhaps others too.

Any advice on how to solo this mission would appreciated. Not only for this first part, but also for any further parts that I have not been able to get to.

I know your going to hate to hear this. But bring friends. I failed this mission the first time because we were waiting for a buddy to hyperspace in from switching ships at coronet. Next time we tried it we finished it without breaking a sweat.

Appart from that, bring some consussion missles. Take the Ace's shields down faster, then kill it.

There are 3 parts to this mission, and you will need a friend for one part of it.

Part 1 - Kill the Ace

Target his Engine and blast away at him, as soon as you get a missile lock fire your missiles at him, then open up all guns blazing - make sure you have that nice reward lvl 8 blaster loaded

Then simply kill each escort

This should take 2-4 mins to do

Part 2 - Kill the Gunboat

This is a pain, but pass one just target the 3 Firesprays, you can destroy these in under 60 seconds

The gunboat is a pain and is bets done with a Master Friend who can unload Spacebombs on it

Part 3 - Kill the Ace

Same as part 1 just in different system, real easy to do.

Did I miss something? I didn't even know there was a reward component other than the engine. Anyone got the name of this thing?

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Mine's called a Borstel Disruptor. You also get a level 8 shield called the Armek Plasma Web Shield Generator that's quite nice. All of this comes from tier 4, and they're really really good.

Helps to make sure you have inventory space whenever you talk to your trainer after a mission. There are reward components for almost every mission. Shield (twice), weapon (twice), engine, booster, droid interface, etc. You may not have noticed some of them, if you hauled in a lot of loot in the mission itself, or your inventory got resorted before you looked at it.

As for the troubles with the mission itself, you'd have to elaborate on what you were flying, and packing for heat. As I recall the Ace went down pretty quickly for me, but I could also take a ton of punishment from the escorts with my 3800pt RE shield, so I was ignoring them.

I solo'ed this, somewhat stubbornly, but I did it.

It was difficult getting past that Imperial Ace at first. I used the disable method, went for the Ace first then his escorts, usually having to hit /iffscramble in the middle of the fight to recharge and go at it again. After so many tries that part became easy, but the next part is the CorSec gunboat. This guy was a royal pain. There is a spot, under the rear of the gunboat, where he can't target you... he will allow you to sit there for about 2.2 seconds. Concussion missiles are of no use against the gunboat either (doing about 3% damage to the shield). If you can keep him 550m away from you, you'll still be able to hit him... he might allow this for about 6-10 seconds. Don't forget your/iffscramble here either! What I did on the gunboat was take out his reactor first, then weapon 2 (the tail gun). After that I was able to sit behind him and be clear of his arc of fire. After the gunboat, the RSF Ace X-Wing seemed like a gift...

I just did this mission after it timed out on me the first time.

To beat the imps, I went after the ace Oppressor first and just disabled him. Then i shot down his little escorts , and finally killed the ace.

The 2nd part with the gunboat plain and simple hurt...alot. I brought a 4444 imp guildie and had him unload a bomber strike on the gunship while we went out and killed the Firespray escorts. Then we targeted the engines to disable it and ohso slowly killed it off. Actually had enough time to drop a second bomber strike on it. We both had to get repaired at least twice (ouch)

The final ace is the RSF in an X wing. SImply repeat the process from the 1st mission - disable the ace, hunt down his Z95 escorts, and kill the ace at your leisure..

I'm flying a Rihkxyrk w/ 1 adv blaster, 1 lvl 8 reward disruptor, 1 re'd lvl 7 blaster with a 1185 42.8 cap and the big honking reward shield.

Thank you all for the advice.

It sounds like I will need to park my Dunelizard and get the Rihk out of the hangar.

It also sounds like I need to practice a bit with missiles as I have never bothered to use them before. They simply haven't been necessary.

Get a Rihk, put a strong shield, three strong guns, a good engine, and some armor in it. Then make sure you are running the following programs...

Engine Overload 3

Weapon Overload 3

Capacitor Overload 4

Capacitor to Shield Shunt 4 (Have this hotkeyed so you can get to it quick.)

Reactor Overload 1, 2, 3, or 4 (Use whatever one you need to get enough energy to run the programs above.)

After that its just a matter of flying good and making sure your shots hit. If you've never flown with all those programs running before, you'll be amazed at how much stronger your ship becomes. (30% faster speed and YPR rates, 30% stronger guns, a capicitor that fully recharges in seconds, and the ability to give your shields a nice boost every time your droid interface finishes up.)

I was planning on using those, though I still need EO 3, and WO 3 chips. Hopefully they will all fit in the best filght computer I qualify for.

I finally decided to make a second attempt at this mission this evening; it turned out to be relatively easy. I had spent the intervening two weeks or so practicing on Black Sun and Hidden Dagger duty missions taken from the Tier 4 Corsec trainer at the Dantooine Mining Outpost. This greatly improved my ability to hit fast moving targets. I also got EO3 and WO3 chips from a friendly Imperial pilot.

I used a nicely loaded Rihk.

Killing the Imperial Ace was easy. All those Ties move fast, but I had practiced a lot on fast ships.

Destroying the Corsec Gunship was neither hard, nor particularly tedious, but my method may leave some people thinking I am crazy. First, I did the sensible thing and took out the 3 Tier 4 Firespray escorts. Very easy.

I took out the Gunship by head-on jousting (really!). My normal way to joust the typical yard trash I meet is to line up and slow to a crawl so I have more time on the target. They don't hit very hard and I usually kill stuff in one pass. This is suicide with the Gunship. I varied this method by charging head on at full speed, then hitting the booster as I went past and then capacitor to shield shunt. My front shieldwould be pretty weak at this point, and one pass, my front armor did get chipped a bit. Also, as I boosted past, my rear shield got hit some, but not badly because I would go out of range very quickly. I would keep using capacitor to shield shunt to completely regen my shields so not much time passed between passes at the gunship.

After a few passes, I finally got the bright idea of destroying the Gunship's engine and reactor, at which point it was a sitting duck.

Killing the RSF Ace was easy. Nothing but a Tier 5 X-Wing and a few Tier 4 Z-95's. Gone in 60 seconds.
