Ok, I was looking at my TIE fighter helmet today in-game, and I noticed something.

If you remove the "stormtrooper" face part, it looks anawful lot like a rebel flight helmet, except black and with imperial insignia instead of the alliance symbol. Weird, huh?

this really only proves the fact that there is only one galactic spase helmet manufacturer in the galaxy and they do contracts for whoever is paying... and reuse alot of parts =P

What busts my bunions aboit the Tie uniform is that the Black Body Suit is supposed to be a Ribbed Pressure Suit. It's supposed to be quilted along the extremities (outside of the arms and legs, etc.) since a Tie Fighter has no atmosphere, there fore no air pressure. The thing is supposed to support the pilot in a vacuum, and during high G tunds and acceleration.
Ofcourse, that may be too much detail, but I wanna look like a Tie Fighter Jockey, not a Black Helmeted Ninja.

Well in a way, I guess there was. When they were making the props for the original star wars movie (which both TIE and rebel pilots appear in), they had a smaller budget than the other films. They most likely did all the scenes with rebel pilot helmets, modified them with a stormtrooper faceplate, and painted them black and used them as TIE pilot helmets. Probably saved some money that way.
