I'm pretty new to the pilot profession and to the game...I've only been playing for a week. I've worked my way up to 2322 with the Smuggler's Alliance, but I can't for the life of me beat the second trainer mission out of Jabba'a Palace. The first 2 parts of the mission are a cakewalk....but I don't think I last more than 30 seconds in the survival part. I've tried to solo this mission 5 or 6 times now and die almost instantly as soon as the fighters appear.

Is there some tip/trick to beating this mission? or am I just not experienced enough to solo it and I should find someone to run it with me?

You can do this, you just need to accrue and apply some knowledge.

First, what chassis are you flying? If it's not a dunelizard or a heavy scyk, you should consider upgrading. I recommend the dunelizard - the second gun mount will help you out tremendously and it's a lot easier to come by for someone in your position. If you haven't learned to use it yet, employ the galaxy wide vendor search, available from any bazaar terminal, in your ship and component search.

Are you using droid programs yet? You don't absolutely have to to succeed at this stage, but they'll help and you're going to need to learn how to use them eventually.

The most likely culprit, however, is gear. Weapons, shield and engine are your top three priorities for PvE, everything else is of secondary importance.

Now that you have access to tier 3 components, you should probably be running a MK IV engine. A reverse engineered level 6 would be better, but given the amount of time you've been in the game, that's probably not an option. You should also be running a MK IV shield (look for one with approximately 1950 f/b hp) and a pair of advanced blasters. (Reverse engineered level 7 guns would be better, but you'll be looting for a long time before you have these knocked out.

Have you read the Pilot FAQ 3.0 yet?

While you're at it, make sure you know your reward components. You get these from your trainer for completing certain missions, and some of them are important and valuable. Be careful not to sell them to the chassis dealer.

Good luck!

Actually I'm currently flying a Kihraxz Light Fighter (Design 4..I think). I had a terrible time trying to find a dunelizard chassis blueprint...so I kinda gave up on that and ended up with my Kihraxz. I have gone through the Pilot FAQ on the forums. I'll need to take a look at the Reward Components list though.

I'm using a Military-Grade Blaster (913.5-1287.0 dmg) and Mark II Proton Launcher for weapons....and I have a chaff launcher loaded. I'm not using droid commands at the moment. I do have an R4 unit and a driod interface though.

I was just looking over my ship at a termimal and noticed my chassis condition is 531/531.....that's like incredibly terrible right? Is that from dying and repairing constantly? the overall condition of the parts degrade each time they recieve dmg and are repaired?

I'm guessing that getting a new ship chassis should help a little bit, huh?

I remember that similar mission for CorSec. It's tough. The way I completed it was by equipping my Dunelizard with the fastest engines I could find (top speed: 96) and 'zoom-and-boom'-ing until only two or three remained.

I think the condition of my chassis was killing me. I guess I should have taken a littlemore time to learn the ins and outs of the gamebefore jumping in the cockpit.

I went out and got a dunelizard chassis and a replacement for my now worthless kihraxz. I loaded the dunelizard up with all the best components I had and took off to try the mission again. Other than getting hassled by some mercenaries in x-wings, the mission was a breeze this time. I got through it on the first try with my new ship.

I went out and got a dunelizard chassis and a replacement for my now worthless kihraxz Firstly, you were wrong in that you SHOULD jump into pilot, and learn as you go along. You were wrong the second time when you trashed your ship, chassis points arent that important, if your at the point where your ship is taking chassis damage your already free floating atoms, you just dont know it yet!. I loaded the dunelizard up with all the best components Thats the way I had and took off to try the mission again. Other than getting hassled by some mercenaries in x-wings, the mission was a breeze this time. I got through it on the first try with my new ship.

Also, always get componentsas the first box in a new tier. Though when i first mastered my first squadron I didnt follow my own advice, always wanted the new shiny ride.
