Thread: Mining: Krayt vs Y8 ..discuss
Well, w/o a doubt you fill up the krayts cargo hold faster.
However the Y-8s minning cargo hold is about 20 times larger meaning you like never have to land.
If you get a good crew you could probly mine faster with a Y-8
I think that the Krayt is the finest solo mining vessel ever.
Three guns (two Mk III Mining Lasers plus one Tractor Beam) plus the 1550 cargo hold utilizing the target-nearest/follow macros makes for about a 3-5 minute mining run from first to last hit on rock. The longest part of the mining experience is travelling to and from the rocks.
I've yet to successfully mine in the Y-8 yet, so I can't really compare.

Assuming that is true, I would argue that if the full crew was each in their own ship miningseparately they would still outperform the fully crewed Y-8.
I'd love to be wrong about this though.
He's refering to the M22-T Krayt, the ship available to master freelance pilots. And he's right, it's a tank for mining
Especially if you put the tractor beam in the wingtips, good spread. And you can fill the cargo hold in under 10 minutes with it.
1 in one of the front gunner ports.

Pilot has a tractor beam, gunner has laser.
That way you can still get the instant suck in effect of the tractorbeam at close range.
The macro is a simple one. target an asteroid, and a follow command. then map that to a button on your stick, and mine away. Learn to hold your fire until you are right behind a medium chunk and you can scoop the entire thing into your hold in one 'shoop!'
Krayt's and Kimogilas are two of the best mining ships. A kimo is easy for a less experienced pilot to have, so don't get worried that you "need" a Krayt, there's no functional difference in mining with either one.
Tractor on the wingtips, mining laser on the chin, and defense gun on the forehead, and the layout is nearly perfect. As was said, the longest part of mining now, is the travel times.
[Kudos and hugs to my girlfriend- she and I mastered our techniques of kimogila mining together right after it was introduced. I learned the macro from her, she learned the gun placement from me (I think)]
