With the new Y8 upgrades, i'm curious as to which ship you now prefer for solo mining. The bottom line is how long does it take to fill your cargo hold?

Please post successes, failures and advice for those new to mining.

thanks all

First they came for the Jedi and I did not speak out because I was not a Jedi.
Then they came for the Bounty Hunters and I did not speak out because I was not a Bounty Hunter.
Then they came for the crafters and I did not speak out because I was not a crafter.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Well, w/o a doubt you fill up the krayts cargo hold faster.

However the Y-8s minning cargo hold is about 20 times larger meaning you like never have to land.

If you get a good crew you could probly mine faster with a Y-8

I think that the Krayt is the finest solo mining vessel ever.

Three guns (two Mk III Mining Lasers plus one Tractor Beam) plus the 1550 cargo hold utilizing the target-nearest/follow macros makes for about a 3-5 minute mining run from first to last hit on rock. The longest part of the mining experience is travelling to and from the rocks.

I've yet to successfully mine in the Y-8 yet, so I can't really compare.

Assuming that is true, I would argue that if the full crew was each in their own ship miningseparately they would still outperform the fully crewed Y-8.

I'd love to be wrong about this though.

He's refering to the M22-T Krayt, the ship available to master freelance pilots. And he's right, it's a tank for mining Especially if you put the tractor beam in the wingtips, good spread. And you can fill the cargo hold in under 10 minutes with it.

It would only take 2 people to out mine Fighters.
1 in one of the front gunner ports.
1 pilot

Pilot has a tractor beam, gunner has laser.
That way you can still get the instant suck in effect of the tractorbeam at close range.

The macro is a simple one. target an asteroid, and a follow command. then map that to a button on your stick, and mine away. Learn to hold your fire until you are right behind a medium chunk and you can scoop the entire thing into your hold in one 'shoop!'

Krayt's and Kimogilas are two of the best mining ships. A kimo is easy for a less experienced pilot to have, so don't get worried that you "need" a Krayt, there's no functional difference in mining with either one.

Tractor on the wingtips, mining laser on the chin, and defense gun on the forehead, and the layout is nearly perfect. As was said, the longest part of mining now, is the travel times.

[Kudos and hugs to my girlfriend- she and I mastered our techniques of kimogila mining together right after it was introduced. I learned the macro from her, she learned the gun placement from me (I think)]

The Rihxyrk is pretty darn effective for mining as well. I put the tractor beam into gun #3 (biggest spread). I only use one Mk III mining laser (in slot #2)as I like to keep one lvl 9 gun for killing. Trying to kill tier 4 or 5 ships with a pair Mk IIIs is not my idea of a good time. With pub 24 I can fill a large hold (1736) in less than three minutes (used to take 10 minutes prior to pub 24).
