Thread: Vaksai Mission Advice Needed
Any hints please?
The Corvette you approach is already headed in the general direction that it will go after you disable it. The longer you take the disable it, the less time there will be for the Escort part of the mission. Wait long enough, and there won't be enough time for enough waves for the Gunboats to ever even spawn. Wait too long and the Corvette leaves and you lose. It has been said that each mission is slightly different, so there is no definate answer as to where you should finally destroy the Engines of the Vette.
Anyway, so I know a god bit about the mission as I prep to undertake it. I'm alone, so I send out a message saying anyone who wants to join me is welcome and that I was planning on disabling the Vette very early, as I *wanted* to go up against those Gunboats. I got one taker, who joined me about as I had knocked out the Engines. We came out alive after the first GU, the set of two GUs, a few fighter waves, another solo GU, and were in a second wave of two GUs when the corvette safely jumped away. Evidently the waves were repeating from the beggining after the set of two GUs. Alirc, my wingmate, and I had one of the two GUs disabled and were working over the other one (the sixth one we had engaged during the misison) when we both started getting a little sloppy (the vette had just left, so we succeeded in completing the mission). We pressed the attack when we were both a little too low on Shields, and bad things happened. I lost my Reactor, disabling my ship so all I could do was wait to get blown away after a few passes by enemy fighters and the return of the GU. He had his engine *almost* knocked out, and limped away at <100 speed. His IFF ran out while he was at 75% complete on his jump to safety, but he did get away.
Few times have I felt to proud, despite dieing in the end. By the way, Alirc and I can also get pretty far into the CPG Tier 5 Duty with just the two of us, and I'm thinking I may set up a try with a couple more pilots to try to finish one of those.

I'll keep this in mind and just declaw the thing next time around (or just leave the worthless side turrets intact) - it can't hurt what it can't hit - and the second it's repaired, the turrets regenerate anyway.
I love my new ship, thanks!!!
you ROCK!
Of course, it'd explain why on the FIRST Vak mission I helped with I only had two gunboats to deal with...versus FOUR on this one.
I just chilled 4k behind the vette. It took all the punishment lol.
The Vaksai mission waves seem to be: several waves of fighters ranging from tier 2 to tier 5, then a wave with a tier 5 GU and a pair of high tier fighers, then a wave with a pair of tier 5 GUs and fighters. After that, the waves seem to loop. If disabled early enough, you can (as I did) have enough waves spawn to get all the way to the second set of two GUs, which makes six GUs total. That ability makes the mission potentially very difficult, but the ability to let the vette fly unmolested makes the missions potentially very easy.

this is off topic, but is it possible to get the badges and ships for all three factions? I've already done the Rebel X-Wing quest and I'm grinding my way up CorSec and want to do it again for a Vaksai
I believe so, I get asked by the rebel station to take the mission and I am Corsec, and have the vaksai already. I will also confirm the previous post. Capture the vette, have one tier 4 or better pilot with you to do nothing but kill fighters, and fly in to take a shot at each and every gunboat, and run for your life. I can take all 3 guns to the other side of kash space... once you aggro, they chase you until you are dead. Only problem here... even flying at a 1250 cruising speed... they will catch you! So as soon as you see the mission complete message, hit your hyper macro and get out of dodge.
I did this mission solo last night in my Krayt, got it on the first try.
I headed straight for the corvette, and took out the fighter escort, then did the usual corvette strategy... take out gun #5, stay below the corvette, take out both shields, then the engine from the rear.
On the escort portion of the mission, I took out the first waves of fighters, until the waves included the gunboats. Once they started, wait until the gunboat(s) engage the corvette, you won't be their target then. Wipe the fighters escorting the gunboats. DO NOTengage the gunboats.... the corvette will be fine with them plinking away at them, all the way back to the station.
Honestly... I managed to get through the mission without cruising behind the vette for 10 minutes and without blowing up a gunboat.
The trick to doing that is to be flying with a fast engine (look, ma! some use for those silly new overdrivered engines! Though I managed it with a dunelizard and a prenerf level 6) and just play tag with the gunboats. Zap them once or twice, get them to chase you, and then run for your life.
As they break offand return to their objective or as more jump in, turn around, zap them once or twice, get them to chase you, and then run for your life. Repeat until the vette jumps.
My way is slightly more stressful, and may end up in the pilot taking damage, but it feels... less like an exploit than the generally suggested method of follow, wait, disable.

That's a risk, in my opinion. I have seen the corvette blow due to enemy fire, so I do not support the opinion that it will be safe regardless of what the GUs try to do to it. For the Escort part of the mission, the Vette only has the Reactor and Bridge left, neither of which can take much damage and both of which are easily hit by the missiles the GUs have available. Congrats if it worked for you, but I won't support the idea as a reliable means to get through the mission.
