If you inspect a ship you can see the cargo, if you disable the ship you can dock with it and it tells you that you have taken the cargo....
But it does not appear in the player inventory? Any ideas?

Those cargoes are solely for mission purposes. No way to get it inventory. It's just there to trigger a condition in a script.

Those are all mission cargos as said. Just because you are not doing a mission doesn't mean you aren't encountering a mission ship. I see Nym Lieutenants very often in the area of Lok where they are found. As far as I've seen, no ship except for ones related to missions even have cargo.

the freighters flying around any given space station also do that. Its not part of any missions, but it has been that way since day 1 of JTL.

That really stinks. I thought you could get it if you had a cargo hold. Too bad. Could have gotten some really good stuff.
Ummm....Question: How can you be a Smuggler\Pirate if you can't steal cargo from another ship?

The interesting thing is that one of the loading splash screens even tells you to go out and steal cargo from the enemies transparts, and when you try it nada, zilch, waste of time.

You need the attitude and the personality. A love of pie also helps. Swing by the Smuggler forum and you can see how we've managed to be smugglers and pirates for 2 years now without any help from SOE.
